Hi

Planning for a 3 day trip. Will reach Zurich airport in the morning and have booked Lucerne as the base. Can you please guide in planning for the 3 days? Titlis, Pilatus are on the to do list. Read about Jungfrau being very far from Lucern??

Day 1 -> Reach Zurich airport -> take train to Lucern

Can the below route be completed in half day?

Take the boat from Lucerne to Alpnachstad. Change to the cogwheel train

to the Pilatus. Then take the cable car down to Fräkmüntegg and change

to the gondola to Kriens. It's a 5 minute walk to the bus stop called

'Kriens, Linde-Pilatus'. There, you can take bus line 1 to the Lucerne

rail station (15 minutes).

Day 2 -> Jungfrau & trummelbach falls (Can this be done on the same day together) please suggest the routes to take

Day 3 -> Titlis and local Lucerne and return to airport (Ideas welcome)

Also please suggest the suitable pass to buy? Telpass or any other?

Thank you.

Thanks for joining us drop2sandeep!

Your plan will work, except for day 1 because the cogwheel train does not operate until May. The exact date depends on the weather. You might be lucky, but don't count on it. If it's closed you can use the cable car.

The Tell-Pass won't work for the Jungfrau region, so I'd recommend to choose from a 3-day Swiss Travel Pass or Swiss Half Fare Card. The below links are useful to prepare for your trip:

Hi drop2sandeep -

The timetable will help you in scheduling your trip. Since you are working carefully to fill all the days, this can show you which trips are available at what time.

By testing various days, you could see that the cograil to Pilatus is not available on April 30, for example.

www.myswissalps.com/ti metable

It also covers lake boats and cableways.

You might also find this map interesting and useful:

map.search.ch/?z=4&x=-12008m&y=-2928m

I set it to cover Luzern and a portion of the Jungfrau region.

Many thanks for your replies. Did a bit of exploring, thanks to your links and suggestions. Please see below a revised plan and please share your views. BASE : LUCERNE

Day 1 -> Arrive at the Zurich airport. Depart to Lucern. (46 mins journey time). Check in at the hotel and depart to Interlaken (1 hour 50 minutes journey time) {Need some suggestions here please, dropped idea of Jungfrau due to long travelling}

Day 2 -> Boat to Alpanchstad. Take a train (as cogwheel is not in service) to Pilatus. Return via cable car to Fraknuntegg onwards to Krien by Gondola. Then bus back to Lucerne. Night time local Lucerne and casino.

Day 3 -> Titlis followed by local Lucerne again (Transport museum maybe) then back to Zurich airport.

Query -> Tell Pass better than Swiss Local Pass?

Please suggest fillers and let me know if this plan looks fine. Thanks for the wonderful help you are all providing to confused travellers like me :)

<<"Take a train (as cogwheel is not in service) to Pilatus">>

Those are the same travel mode. You'll have to go up and down via Kriens.

Hi drop2sandeep,

Interlaken itself is not very interesting, but you can check the timetable whether you have time to include the boat from Brienz to Interlaken, then take the train back to Lucerne. The boat timetable is limited when you're there: last boat from Brienz 3:40 PM, from Interlaken 2:07 PM.

I don't know the Swiss Local Pass. Do you mean the Swiss Travel Pass? Please find details here:

Hi drop2sandeep -

What time of the year are you traveling?

Makes a difference for Pilatus and for the Jungfrau region.
