We took the 11:17 Bernina Express from Pontresina to Tirano. The views as you climb up to the Bernina Pass are breath-taking. We had lunch in Tirano and took the regular train back to Pontresina. As suggested by the MySwissAlps experts, we got off at Ospizio Bernina and walked to Alp Grum. Walking along Lago Bianco and through the desolate landscape was quite thrilling. Probably because it’s early in the season and it was late in the afternoon, we were the only hikers. There is a short segment as you walk down to the Alp Grum station that is quite steep. Be sure to check the time table for the last connection.

We took the train to Punt Muragl and the underground funicular up to Muottas Muragl. Our hotel told us that the trail to Alp Languard had just opened, so we decided to do the hike. The views of the Engadine Valley and St. Moritz are spectacular. We saw marmots and ibex. The trail is along the edge of the mountain so we had to watch our step. It took us 4 hours but it was a once in a life time experience. We had a great lunch at the restaurant in Alp Languard The chair lift from Alp Languard to Pontresina was great fun!

We took the 7:57 Glacier Express from St. Moritz to Zermatt. All the wonderful things you hear about this journey is true. The Alpine meadows carpeted with spring flowers, the Rhine Gorge, enjoying the gorgeous scenery as you relax and have lunch served at your seat – unforgettable! We reached Zermatt at 4:10 pm
