Today we travelled on the Centovalli Panorama to Domodossola, an Italian train to Brig and then a Swiss train to Thun.
The scenery was pleasant enough on the Centovalli line but nothing in comparison to some other Swiss scenic trains. At Domodossola the Italian train was late, which made us miss the Lotschberger from Brig to Thun. A couple of days later we were at a station where another Italian train was announced as being about 1/2 hour late. None of our Swiss trains were ever late – quite a difference.
We caught a normal train to Thun and the next day were able to take the Lotschberger. Thun was chosen as a base for seeing various parts of Switzerland for our last three days. Our hotel, Boutique Hotel Spedition, was very nice and had excellent air-conditioning. It’s quite new and a reasonably short, flat walk from the station. It also had a supermarket next door which was good for evening meals as we’d stopped eating out in Switzerland due to the exhorbitant cost.
