Here is my tentative itinerary. Been to Switzerland 4 times and to Wengen twice already. Wengen is our base of operations.

Look over my use of rail, lifts, boats etc. and advise me what is best way to purchase travel.

Do I buy round trip ticket form Zurich to Wengen and the buy the Regional 8 day pass or do I buy 6 day pass and pay for individual ticket up to Kleine Scheidegg on 26 May.

There are three of us. One is my son who is 16. The rest of us are over 50

Or do I buy swiss rail pass?

Or half fare card?

So many choices. Which is the best deal?

How do I get the most for my money ?

Some of the tickets give discount on the Jungfraujoch leg, some don’t. if you buy some tickets, you get discounted Regional pass. Some give you boat and gondola travel as part of the package. Hard to figure all out.

Paragliding

Train from Grindewald to Wengen

Gondola from Wengen up to Mannlichen

30 MAY

Train from Wengen to Wilderswill Railway Station

Cog railway from Wilderswill Railway Station to Schynige Platte

Return to Wilderswill

Train from Wilderswill to Wengen

The official answer is that there is no escape from doing the sums. Based on your itinerary you need to do the sums based on the cost of all your planned trips on trains, boats, cable cars etc. You can use the Swiss Train Timetable (http://www.myswissalps.com/ti metable) to work out the fares for any trip. When you go to buy a ticket the fare you see on the right hand side of the page will normally be the half-fare price. Double it to get full fare. With A Swiss Travel Pass it is free provided it is shown as free on the Area of Validity map ( PDF downloadable from http://www.myswissalps.com/sw isstravelpass/validity).

My unofficial, gut feeling is that the Bernese Oberland Pass (http://www.myswissalps.com/re gionalpassberneseoberl and) or the Jungfrau Travel Pass (http://www.myswissalps.com/ju ngfrautravelpass) would suit your itinerary. You would need point to point tickets to get from Zurich and back.
