Alternative for Wengen-Männlichen in early May

Short summary – read this first

A traveler is planning a trip to Lauterbrunnen with their girlfriend in early May and is looking for alternatives to reach Mannlichen since the cable car won't operate until May 11. They'd like to know if other cable cars are running during that time and appreciate any advice on getting around.

Key takeaways:
  • The Wengen to Mannlichen cable car starts operating on May 11, so plan accordingly.
  • Check the SBB timetable for updates on other cable cars to ensure they're running during your visit.
  • Consider hiking from Kleine Scheidegg to Mannlichen; however, it may not be feasible in early May due to snow.
  • Be prepared for unpredictable weather in the Alps; check local forecasts frequently.

My girlfriend and I are staying in Lauterbrunnen in early May for a few days. Found out the Wengen-Mannlichen cable won’t be running, anyone know how else we can make the same journey?

Also, are all cable cars not running in early May?

    Really grateful for any advice!

Hello ChefSach and Welcome to MySwissAlps

The Wengen to Männlichen cable way recommences operation on 11 May.

For other cableways check the SBB Timetable (bit.ly/2HH1U7B) for your chosen travel days. If it shows a connection then it is ooerating. If you are not familiar with using the timetable it will pay to first read the instructions on this page – http://www.myswissalps.com/ti metable.

Hey rockoyster! Thank you so much for the quick response. I will definitely need to read those links you have sent.

+ Have you any idea how much of a hassle it will be if we come whilst the cable car is not working? As in, are the alternative routes very long?

+ Also, how unpredictable is the weather, I am going by this site http://www.accuweather.com/en /ch/lauterbrunnen/3121 39/may-weather/312139

The only way to get to Männlichen is to hike from Kleine Scheidegg. Unlikely to be possible early May.

Weather in the Alps is unpredictable. You can’t rely on long range forecasts. Keep an eye on bit.ly/2GmILXS also http://www.meteoswiss.admin.c h/home/weather/current -weather.html
