Hi Shannon
I believe most of the regular contributors to this forum would recommend staying in Wengen or maybe Murren instead of
. They are car free and the scenery much superior. We really liked the Beausite Park Hotel in Wengen (#1 rated by TripAdviser users).
The hiking around Wengen is superb. I suspect your first day there you won’t feel like doing too much after a 9 hr flight, customs , and a 4 hr train ride (probably change trains in Bern,Interlaken Ost, And Lauterbrunnen if you stay in Wengen.
However, for the 2 full days in area you may consider these hikes. Take the cable car from Wengen to Mannlichen then walk to Kleine Scheidegg, about 1:45 hrs. Lunch at KS where there are several restaurants . Most all the restaurants in the area have outside seating for nice weather and inside if the weather is cold or wet. You can then continue uphill to Eigergletscher another 45 min-1hr walk. You will be walking strait toward the Eiger and Monch. see att photos. To save your knees consider the short train ride back down to KS. From there you can take the train back to Wengen or hike partway back. The trail parallels the tracts and the walk from KS to the first stop ,Wengernalp, takes about an hour (an easy down hill trail with Jungfrau on your left). This can all be done at a leisurely pace and get you back to Wengen by mid afternoon. The scenery is spectacular .
Another option for the next day consider hiking from First to Bachalpsee. a wide easy trail (about an hour) then continue left and downhill toward Waldspitz where you can eat lunch at outside restaurant wit great views of the mountains. From Waldspitz you can hike down to Bort and take cable car down to Grindelwald or take a different route back to First. Total walking time 2:30 -3:00 hrs. Again great scenery , see att photos.
Other good hiking options are Grosse Scheidegg, Eiger trail, Schynige Platte, Lauterbrunnen valley. If the weather is overcast or cloudy the Lauterbrunnen valley walk is a good option as is a cruise on Brienzersee or Thunersee. But keep in mind the weather can change quickly. It may be cloudy in the morning and clear by afternoon or vise versa.
In Zermatt, we really liked staying at the Riffelalp Hotel. It is high end and a splurge but overlooks down on Zermatt and has great views of the Matterhorn from the rooms. We especially liked the hike from Riffelalp to Riffelsee and the Gornergletscher lookout. See photo.
Last the higher trails should be clear by the last half of June but if the is a heavy late snow some may be impassable so you may have to be flexible.
Hope this is helpful Mark
