    Hi,

I am travelling to Switzerland end of this month. I am sharing my itinerary here. Can you please guide me for the passes. I fly in to Basel and I fly out of Geneva. 2 days stay in Lucerne and 3 days in Lauterbrunnen.

Confused between 2 day Tell pass combined with 4 days Bernese Oberland regional pass or a straight away 8 day Swiss pass?

    Day 1

Reach Basel at 9 from Amsterdam then head off to Lucerne.

Check in and they go for Mt.Titlis excursion based on the weather if not roam locally

    Day 2

Go for Mt.Rigi Excusion first half(Take the boat from Lucerne to Vitznau. Change to the cogwheel train to Rigi Kulm. Then take the cogwheel train down to Rigi Kaltbad and change to the cable car down to Weggis. Walk over to the boat (15 minutes) to return to Lucerne.)

and 2nd half Mt. Pilatus Golden round trip

All this free with Tell Pass

    Day 3

Early morning we start for Lauterbrunnen from Lucerne via Interlaken Ost (Bernese Oberland Pass.. no reservation required)

Check in at Lauterbrunnen then after taking a bit rest start off for Wengen around 1 pm..

From Wengen – Männlichen cable car then follow the trail to Kleine Scheidegg. (With Bernese oberland pass everything free).. While coming back from Kleine Scheidegg to Wengen/Lauterbrunnen what should we do walk back back to Wengen then catch train or other alternatives are there

    ?

    Day 4:

Start for Grindelwald early. Then catch cablecar to First and hike to the Bachsee (All free with Bernese Oberland pass)

Then in the late afternoon catch train to Interlaken Ost and take a boat ride across Thun and visit Spiez. Then back to Lauterbrunnen. (All transportation covered with BOP)

    Day 5:

From Lauterbrunnen cross the street (or use the underground walk) to the cable car to Grütschalp.

Then follow the trail to Mürren begining at the Grütschalp station where I depart the cable car. (Free with BOP)

I can catch the gondola up to the Schilthorn. Alternatively, if the weather looks like it is coming in during the afternoon, do this trip differently.

Take the cable car from Lauterbrunnen up to Grutschalp, the train from Grutscahlp to Murren, walk 15 mins through town to the cable carand head straight up to Schilthorn then take the gondola back to Murren.

From Murren then return down to Stechelberg ,

visit to the Trummelbach falls and walk along the lovely Lauterbrunnen valley back to Lauterbrunnen. (Trummelbach falls covered with BOP ?)

    ?

    Day 6:

Lauterbrunnen to Bern: Reach Bern and go out for a city tour.

come back around 4 and take train to Geneva to catch the flight back to Amsterdam at 9pm. (Train is free with BOP and requires no reservation along the entire route) Can you please tell with BOP till what part of the journey would be free and how much I have to pay for the remaining part of the journey to Geneva?

Please correct me if any of the above stated details are incorrect.

    Welcome to MySwissAlps Manikad21!

An 8-day Swiss Travel Pass costs CHF 376 and the two other passes cost CHF 430. You’ll have to take into account that the Regional-Pass Bernese Oberland and Tell-Pass do include more free traveling, but they do not fully include your trips from Zurich and to Geneva. Note that the Swiss Travel Pass also includes quite a lot of non-train transportation for free, like the boats, Mount Pilatus and Mount Rigi. Most museums are free as well.

What’s included in each of the passes can be found here:

How to calculate the cheapest option is explained here: http://www.myswissalps.com/tr ain/ticketspasses/prac tical/chooserailpass

As for day 3: you can walk from Kleine Scheidegg to Wengernalp or Wengen and take the train to Lauterbrunnen from there. Schedules are in the timetable.

    Thanks for your detailed response.

Note that the Swiss Travel Pass also includes quite a lot of non-train transportation for free, like the boats, Mount Pilatus and Mount Rigi.

With Tell Pass also Mount Pilatus and Mount Rigi complete excursions are free right?

Actually I got confused from this statement

Note that the Swiss Travel Pass also includes quite a lot of non-train transportation for free, like the boats, Mount Pilatus and Mount Rigi.

I mean the basic difference between Tell pass and Swiss pass is my travelling from Basel to Lucerne by train will not be covered. Is there anything else in Lucerne in my itinerary which is not covered by Tell Pass but by Swiss pass.

And basic difference between Bernese Oberland Pass and Swiss Pass is

With BOP From Wengen – Männlichen cable car free

Grindelwald cablecar to First free with BOP

Lauterbrunnen to Bern free with BOP

but from Bern to Geneva part of the journey not free with BOP.

My problem with calculation is I do not know the cable car fares and also the fare which I need to pay for part of the journey between Bern to Geneva.

And lastly if I am travelling with Swiss pass can I start using it from the Basel airport to go to the train station?

    Tell Pass advantages

    Engelberg Cable car free

Mt.Rigi Excusion first half(Take the boat from Lucerne to Vitznau. Change to the cogwheel train to Rigi Kulm. Then take the cogwheel train down to Rigi Kaltbad and change to the cable car down to Weggis. Walk over to the boat– Free

    Mt.Pilatus golden round trip free

    BOP Advantages

All cablecars free except the one to Sclithorn

    Hi Manikad21,

I mentioned that because quite often people don’t notice what exactly is included, but the maps I linked to show all the details. The timetable page explains how to find prices under “How to find ticket prices”. Basically for cable cars you just check the website of that cable car. Many of our pages have links to those sites to make it easier.

Yes, the Swiss Travel Pass includes Basel airport to the train station too (the yellow line on the map).

On the last day of my trip I have my flight around evening 8pm from Geneva and I will be staying in Lauterbrunnen.

Initially I thought of doing Bern before I reach Geneva airport. So can anyone help with something better to do to make use of the day before I catch the flight either with Swiss pass or Bernese Oberland pass.

P.S. I will already be done with Interlaken, grindelwald,Murren and Wengen…

I like the idea of Bern for the day – it is one of my favourite cities. Another option could be Montreux as well. Have a look at the links to see if they interest you. Both are located nicely on your way to Geneva (depending on the route you take).

    Hi,

I decided to go with 3 day flex swiss pass and 4 day bernese oberland pass for my trip. Let me know your thoughts on my choice. And lastly with Bernesee Oberland pass do I get any additional dicounts when I travel to kleine Schiedeg or Sclithorn?

Also the advantages of BOP over Swiss Pass in Bernese Oberland region?

P.S. I do not have plans to go to jungfrau

Yes, the Regional Pass – Bernese Oberland offers some better discounts in that region than the Swiss Travel Pass.

You can compare coverage for both here:

    Hi Guys,

    One last doubt.

I was purchasing the passes then I came across this option.

1.If I am buying the Swiss travel pass flexi then will i get the 25 % discount on buying the bernese oberland pass? or is it only with the regular swiss pass?

    2. Does Bernese oberland pass have the print at home and ready to use option because I hardly got a week left before I travel?

    Tx

    Hi Manikad21,

    1. No, you will not get a discount. From what I’ve heard you would need a validated Swiss Travel Pass Flex on all your travel days of the Regional-Pass Bernese Oberland, which is too expensive to make it worth it, and not what you have planned. Officially they don’t even list that combination anymore, and nor do we (see here). In your case you need a regular Regional-Pass Bernese Oberland.

    2. I noticed you live in The Netherlands, which is also where Treinreiswinkel is based. They’ll ship your order the next business day for free, so there’s plenty of time if you order today or tomorrow. The same applies to Happyrail but their shipping might take a bit longer. Please see:

You’ll find a list of purchase options on http://www.myswissalps.com/re gionalpassberneseoberl and/price. Via http://www.swissrailways.com/ en/products/regionalbe rneseoberlandpass you can even have it delivered to your hotel in Lucerne if you fill out their address as the delivery address. This is not free, but CHF 6 from the top of my mind. Shipping is from Switzerland so plenty of time for that option as well.

    Have a good trip!

Gosh!! my entire calculation was based on that belief that i will get a handsome discount if i buy the bernese oberland pass along with the swiss travel pass flex.

So if I am buying Tell pass and Bernese oberland pass. I still have to pay for my train tickets from Basel to Lucerne and from Lauterbrunnen to Geneva?

Can you please advise how to do it in a cheaper way. Last day I have to take flight from Geneva at 8pm and I will be staying in Lauterbrunnen. So how can I reach geneva with bernese oberland pass in a cheaper way?

    Hi Manikad21,

If your passes are valid on the days you travel to Lucerne and from Lauterbrunnen, you will only need a ticket for a part of the route (the staff at the station ticket office can sell you the correct ticket). If not, you indeed need a regular ticket.

Tell Pass will be valid when I travel from basel to Lucerne and Bernese oberland pass will be valid when i travel from lauterbrunnen to geneva. Can you give me a rough estimation of this ticket prices if the passes are valid then I can immediately buy the passes from

    http://www.treinreiswinkel.nl /treinpassen/zwitserla nd/regiopas-berner-oberland

    without wasting anymore time.

    Hi Manikad21,

The validity maps of the Tell Pass and Regional Pass Bernese Oberland allow you to see which part of the routes is included. I estimate the additional tickets to cost about CHF 100 in total.

    Enjoy your travels!

    hi,

I was trying to buy the Wengen to Manlichen cable car ticket one way with swiss pass discount but while buying I could not see the 50% discount option for swiss pass. The discount is with 1/2-Fare Card, GA Travel Card in the site.

To my understanding the one way price for 1 person with swiss pass from wengen to Manlichen should be 11.50 chf

the round price for 1 person with swiss pass from grindelwald to First should be 30 chf

And the train fare from kleine schiedegg to grindelwald with swiss pass would be with 25% discount around how much?

Please correct me if i am wrong

    Hi Manikad21,

There is no Swiss Pass anymore, are you referring to the Swiss Half Fare Card or the Swiss Travel Pass? Let us know which rail pass you will have to get the right details on discounts.

The 1/2 fare card works if you have the Swiss Half Fare Card or the GA Travel Card if you have the Swiss Travel Pass – they are for Swiss residents only but gets you the proper price.

For prices up to Jungfraujoch click here – there is a PDF price list (under “more information”). The amount of discount depends on the rail pass you have.

    With Swiss Travel Pass

To my understanding the one way price for 1 person with swiss travel pass from wengen to Manlichen should be 11.50 chf

the round price for 1 person with swiss travel pass from grindelwald to First should be 30 chf

    Ah ok!

The Swiss Travel Pass will get you 25% off for the trip from Grindelwald to First and Kleine Scheidegg to Grindelwald. You will get 50% off from Wengen to Männlichen. You can see a PDF map here which indicated what % you get on all routes in the country.

The full ticket prices can be found on the link from my previous post and lists one-way and round-trip prices for you.

But Arno said that is not possible.

Can you please confirm on the same.
