We are planning to buy BOP for (3) adults & (2) children ages 10 & 7. The fare for adults to Jungfraujoch is 25% off. with this pass are children with BOP child pass free or do they pay same as adults?

We are also thinking about getting the Swiss half-fare pass for adults with family card for children. the fare for Jungfraujoch is 50% off for adults. If we have the family card as well do the children go free or do they have to pay same as adults?

with half fare pass to Schilthorn do children with family card go free or pay same half-fare as adults?

This forum is a wonderful tool. Thank you, bbeerbower

    Hi bbeerbower,

The fare to Jungfraujoch is 25% off from Kleine Scheidegg with the Regional Pass – Bernese Oberland (up to that point it is free which is better than the Swiss Travel Pass where you must buy a ticket at 25% off from Grindelwald or Wengen).

See what is covered by the Regional Pass – Bernese Oberland here & by the Swiss Travel Pass here.

Child fares for the RP-BO is 30chf (6-15 years).

If you buy the Swiss Half Fare Card then it is 50% off are trips for the adults with the card. The children can then get the Swiss Family Card (free at time of ordering) which covers any trip they take in Switzerland with you – no extra charge.

Thank You very much. I wanted to make sure that if we bought the Swiss Half fare pass plus children’s (family card) that they would go free to Jungfraujoch & Schilthorn. this year the Swiss Pass includes Schilthorn but I wondered if the child’s family pass card was free for children.

We are definitely buying the BOP for adults & children as we are going to stay in Lauterbrunnen and the post bus etc is covered under the BOP pass not the Swiss Pass or Swiss half-fare pass. I also like the idea of not having to buy a ticket everwhere so the BOP makes sense for Lauterbrunnen. last year we got the Jungfrau pass when we stayed in Interlaken and that worked great. this year we are expanding our area. starting in Zurich, Appenzell – Germany-Austria-Alsace then back to Lauterbrunnen so the Swiss half-fare also makes sense to buy both for the 2 wks we’ll be in Switzerland.

Do we have to pre-order the Swiss half-fare pass to get a family child card or can we get them at the Zurich airport or any station? we had planned to buy half-fare card @ Zurich airport upon arrival. and the Bernese Oberland Pass @ the Lauterbrunnen station. Thanks in advance for information which is very very helpful. bbeerbower

I would buy the Swiss Half Fare Card online. That way you have electronic back ups in case you lose any passes and you don’t have to go to the railway office upon landing – just hop on your train right away.

The Regional-Pass Bernese Oberland is now also available as print@home via https://www.happyrail. com/en/pass/europe/swi tzerland/regional-pass-berner-oberland (via e-mail within one business day). So that will get you the backup too – as many copies as you want!

    >> we are going to stay in Lauterbrunnen and the post bus etc is covered under the BOP pass not the Swiss Pass or Swiss half-fare pass.

With very few exceptions, PostBuses in Switzerland are free with the Swiss Travel Pass, and discounted with the Swiss Half Fare Card. That includes the bus between Lauterbrunnen and Stechelberg.

You can download a map from the link below, showing what is covered by the Swiss Travel Pass and Swiss Half Fare Card. The bus route from Lauterbrunnen to Stechelberg is clearly shown.
