Find your hotel in Zermatt: from budget to luxury Copy link to clipboard

The mountain village Zermatt offers luxurious hotels, but comfortable budget options too. Many hotels are at less than 10 minutes on foot from the rail station.

Must-knows about hotels in Zermatt

  • Most hotels in Zermatt can be reached on foot from the train station and the Gornergrat valley station.
  • Electric buses and hotel pick-up services can get you to your hotel too.
  • Matterhorn views from your hotel room are not guaranteed: check the room description if this is important for you.
  • Zermatt is touristy, but still has comfortable budget accommodations. Look into the nearby villages Täsch, Randa, or St. Niklaus for more affordable options.

How to reach your hotel in Zermatt

Zermatt is a small town. Nearly all hotels in town are within walking distance of the cable cars and the rail station.

You can take an electric bus if you book a hotel farther away. Many hotels can pick you up from the station as well.

Learn all about traveling to and in the town in my Zermatt guide.

Where to stay in Zermatt

Close to the train station and the Gornergrat valley station

Book a hotel close to the rail station if you plan to make day trips to the Gornergrat and to other towns in the Matter Valley, or to more areas of the Valais. You can quickly board regular trains, the cogwheel train to the Gornergrat and the Glacier Express here.

Farther south: close to the valley stations of Sunnegga-Rothorn and Matterhorn Glacier Paradise

Hotels farther south from the station are closer to the valley stations of the mountains Sunnegga-Rothorn and Matterhorn Glacier Paradise. The southern districts, such as Winkelmatten, are quieter and farther away from the lively main street.

Where to stay for Matterhorn views from your room

The center of Zermatt is densely built. This means you won’t necessarily have Matterhorn views from your room. The quieter areas south of the main street have better chances of unobstructed views. Always check your hotel room description and pictures, to make sure what you’ll see.

Cheaper alternatives to Zermatt

There are fine budget hotels in Zermatt. But if you need a wider selection of affordable hotels, look into the nearby villages Täsch, Randa, or St. Niklaus. You won’t have the grand Matterhorn views as in Zermatt, but the Matter Valley is still beautiful here.

Grächen is even further from Zermatt. It’s on a plateau above the valley and can only be reached by bus or car. The mountain panorama is fantastic here.
