Hello,

My friend and I are meeting up in Zurich and getting the 8 day Swiss Travel flex pass. We are trying to take in scenery and also be as frugal as possible. This is our first (and likely only) bucket-list trip to Switzerland. Here is our current itinerary….

May 10 – Zurich

May 11 – See Zurich, take train to Davos (Day 1 Pass)

• Not sure what to see in Zurich?

May 11-16 – Stay 5 nights at Hilton Garden Inn in Davos because we have points for this hotel (use 4 Days of Pass)

• In Davos, we are looking for day trip ideas using the Pass, easy hikes in Davos area that are not in the snow, free/cheap things to do in Davos area during these dates (which we know are the in between season dates)
• Want to take the Glacier Express (but the free with pass local line if possible) from Davos to Visp and then to Spiez/Diemtigen area)
• Is there any free wifi in Davos? Their website talks of free wifi? We will have the guest card.

May 16-19 – Stay 3 nights at Airbnb in Diemtigen Nature Park (use 3 Days of Pass)

• Looking for best day trips from Diemtigen
• Possibly Schilthorn (is this running in May?)
• Maybe a day trip to the Maison Cailler chocolate factory?
• May 19th would be taking scenic train to Lucerne and then to Zurich

May 19 – Stay 1 Night at airport hotel in Zurich for early morning flights on May 20

Any tips or suggestions? Any help or ideas would be appreciated. Thank you so much!

And yes, there is free Wifi available in Davos, although I don’t have any personal experience regarding strength of the network, etc.

For the Glacier Express, it is quite a journey you’re planning, considering you want to travel with the regular trains. The direct train takes around 4.5 hours, and you would have to change quite a few times on the regular trains.

You would travel some like this: Davos – Chur – Disentis/Mustér – Andermatt – Brig – Visp – Spiez – Diemtigen.

Use the advanced timetable in this link to find out about total travelling times. Of course it is up to your how much travelling is acceptable in a day. 🙂
