    Hi Boyznme1,

Will you be based in Zurich for the entire 3 days or planning to stay elsewhere?

If you’re interested in mountains and lakes, I recommend staying in Lucerne. You can find hotel options here: http://www.myswissalps.com/lucerne/hotels

Lucerne is centrally located and provides easy access to mountaintop destinations such as Titlis, Rigi and Pilatus. You can also combine your mountain excursions with boat trips on Lake Lucerne. There are regular train services between Zurich and Lucerne, travel time takes roughly about 45 mins. You can check train schedules on the SBB timetable: http://www.myswissalps.com/timetable

    Hope this gets you started.

    Hi Boyznme1,

I would also recommend going to Lucerne and visiting the mountains Pilatus, Rigi, Tittlis or the Stanserhorn from there. A boat trip on Lake Lucerne with an old paddle steamer is also highly recommended 🙂

    Have a great trip

Thanks I will stay in Lucerne. After 2 nights Im wondering if it makes sense to take the train further into the Alps

to see more scenery and mountains. Could take the train to Rome from there instead. Or could spend one night there as well. Opinions?

    Hello Boyznme1,

Yes, staying based in Lucerne for the 3 nights would work as you can always take the train from Lucerne to Rome and taking your time to enjoy all the activities in the region.

Alternatively, 2 nights in Lucerne and perhaps taking the train to Lugano and spending a night there? You can still take the train from Lugano to reach Rome.

Lugano, here you could visit Monte Bre, there are some magnificent views of the city and the lake to be enjoyed.

Should you decide to visit and stay a night in Lugano, it would be worth considering a 3 day Swiss Travel Pass to cover your rail travel needs. More information here :

I hope this helps, feel free to reach out with any further questions.

    Kind regards,

    Yolanda
