Hello,

We are planning a Trip to Switzerland by mid of July. Require some suggestions for the itinerary that we have planned.

Day 1: Arrival to Zurich from Copenhagen. Overnight Stay in Zurich.

Question: Please suggest some sightseeing in Zurich, we are planning to see the Rhine fall later on.

Day 2: Travel to Lucerne by train. Trip to Mount Pilatus

Day 3: Trip to Titlis

Day 4: One day trip to Jungfrau region

Question: Is it allowed with toddler to visit the Jungfrau region? if not advisable what we can see instead.

Day 5: Travel back to Zurich. visit Rhine fall.

Day 6: Morning 8′ o clock flight back to India.

Please guide if there is something which you suggest is the must go with toddler, which I missed in above Itinerary.

Since we are travelling with toddler we are planning to stay at one place either lucerne or Interlaken and visit the ablove places. Please guide which place is best to stay with toddler and budget friendly too. Is it Lucerne or Interlaken.

In Lucerne/Interlaken what area would you suggest for stay as we are looking for some peaceful area with good connectivity to travel and a grocery store or small eatery nearby.

Please also guide which Swiss travel pass we should purchase so that most of the above planned itinerary is covered.

Nice to hear you’re coming to Switzerland.

I think your itinerary is nicely mapped out and also nicely paced, especially considering you’re travelling with a small child.

Zurich offers lots to do and see, the Lake of Zurich is beautiful and also the old town and some surrounding hills will offer you enough diversity for your stay:

Travelling to above 3’000 meters is not recommended with a toddler, but also not forbidden. I will attach the medical recommendation of the Jungfraujoch for you.

You will find grocery stores in both Lucerne and Interlaken, whereas it’s quite a bit smaller than Lucerne.

Normally the Swiss Travel Pass is the most convenient rail pass option to cover multiple places within Switzerland, your little one will travel for free anyway.

If you consider staying in Lucerne then you should also look into the Tell Pass, covering Lucerne, Mount Titlis and Mount Pilatus. You can then cover Interlaken/the Jungfrau Region in a day trip or a guided tour from Lucerne.

Many thanks for your prompt reply, apologies for my late response.

I require your help for my below queries,

We are reaching Zurich by 8’o Clock in the evening and is planning to rent a car . we have our accommodation booking confirmed in Mauensee, Luzern.

Please suggest if its safe to drive at night by 9 from Zurich to Mauensee or should we travel by rail.

Please also guide apart from mountains, what are the places or cities nearby to luzern that we should consider going?

Also in Interlaken if we skip the Jungfrau region what place you suggest to visit otherwise with a toddler.

I am considering to book one of the train passes and need your help with the below few queries.

Can you please guide if the Swiss tell pass covers the travel from Zurich to Luzern and the other way round, and the public transport in Zurich.

Please also guide if the Tell pass cover the travel and attraction to Interlaken and Jungfraujoch region.

It seems to me that you are unsure if you are going to travel by public transport (train, boat, bus) or by rental car. I have looked at your itinerary and suspect that you would be better to do the former (public transport).

You also seem to be unsure about the Jungfrau region. Is this because you want to have an alternative in case the weather up there is unsuitable ?

I think that Lucerne would be your best bet for a base for your visit.

Your six days are going to go by very quickly, especially since these include the day you arrive and the day you depart for India.

I was unsure if I should choose Public transport or car, but now after a bit of research I agree that Public transport would be budget friendly and convenient. We will be staying in Lucerne for 5 nights and 1 night in Zurich. we have 5 full days excluding the days of our arrival and departure to India.

Hi Ishaa,
You already got lot of good advise from folks on this forum.
In Switzerland trains are extremely convinient and are a good place to meet people from all over the world.
Lucerne is good choice for moderate weather base camp.
From Lucerne, when you travel to Titlis , you may consider going to Brunni.Families with kids like that place.
In October ,I am making my 3rd trip to Switzerland- in first trip Swiss half fare card worked out to be economic. In second trip individual tickets worked out cheaper.
In my 3rd trip I will be using ” tell pass“. To sum up you need to use the excel link given to you on the forum check the best tickets/ pass suitable for your itenerary.
It’s sad that the toddler will not remember the trip when he grows up.!

My earliest memories, and even these are fleeting, go back to when I was three years of age. However, you can take many photographs and make all kinds of videos, making sure your toddler is in plenty of them, and then, at least he or she will be able to look at all this when he or she gets older. Not to mention the wonderful memories they will be for you the parents.
