Zurich, Lucerne, Bern, Grindelwald, Zermatt in 7 days – May trip
A traveler named Bethp_ is planning her first trip to Switzerland in May to celebrate her 30th birthday. She's excited but feeling overwhelmed by the choices of places like Zermatt, Grindelwald, Lucerne, and Bern. Bethp_ is looking for advice on whether to stay in one place or travel between several locations while exploring the country.
- For a 7-day trip, it's recommended to stay in at least 2 locations and make day trips from those bases.
- Starting in Interlaken or the Jungfrau region is a great option for easy access to Grindelwald, Bern, and Lucerne.
- Consider your second base to be either Brig or Montreux for good connections to Zermatt.
- Don't forget to look into the Swiss Travel Pass for convenient public transport across the country.

Hey everyone! I’m looking to visit Switzerland this May for the first time. I’m feeling a little overwhelmed with all of the options/gorgeous places to visit whilst trying to do my planning.
We’d love to do a bit of exploring and see a few different places but aren’t sure whether we need to base ourselves in one location & use public transport or if it’s best to move around stay in a few locations? We’ll probably be flying into Zurich from the UK & out of Geneva back to the UK. I’d love to see the smaller towns like Zermatt/Grindelwald and maybe Lucerne/Bern but again, not sure where is best to visit at this time of year.
Any help would be greatly appreciated! The main focus of the trip is celebrating my 30th birthday whilst seeing some of the most beautiful places Switzerland has to offer 🙂
