Looking for inexpensive accommodation near St. Moritz rail station

Short summary – read this first

A traveler, Boli, is looking for two single rooms for one night in February in St. Moritz. She's finding it hard to locate budget-friendly hotels, with the least expensive option being SF 380. She needs advice on more economical hotel options near the station.

Key takeaways:
  • Check hotel booking websites and filter by 'town' to find budget accommodations in St. Moritz.
  • Consider looking for hotels in nearby towns like Pontresina which are cheaper and only a short distance from St. Moritz.
  • Look into Swiss hostels, which can be a good option for quality and price.
  • If using the Glacier Express, upgrade your 2nd class Swiss Travel Pass to 1st class, ensuring you reserve your seat in advance as they can sell out quickly.

    Hi Boli,

Yes St. Moritz is pricey.  Do try the below links for more hotel suggestions.  You can filter by ‘town’.

    Kind regards,

    Yolanda

    Hello Boli!

In addition to Yolanda’s tips, you may have a look at our list at https://www.myswissalps.com/accommodation/hotels/st-moritz/. You can set the price filter to “Low”. Further down on the same page, you’ll also find tips for areas of St. Moritz that house some cheaper hotels, as well as for towns near St. Moritz that offer lower-priced accommodation in general.

You could consider a hostel too. Swiss hostels are usually of very good quality. The ones in St. Moritz can be found here: https://www.myswissalps.com/accommodation/hostels/?_town=st-moritz.

As Annika mentioned, I can recommend the hostel in a nearby town, Pontresina, https://www.youthhostel.ch/en/hostels/pontresina; not just for youth.  You will see seniors and families there as well. Pontresina is only about 10 minutes from St. Moritz.  Have a great trip.

    Hi Boli,

Here’s our Zermatt accommodation link: https://www.myswissalps.com/accommodation/hotels/zermatt/  Per Annika’s reply earlier, you can do the same here and filter the price accordingly.

If you would like to travel by the Glacier Express 1st class, you will need to have 1st class seat reservation + 1st class ticket OR rail pass. So in your case, that’s right you would have to upgrade your 2nd class Swiss Travel Pass (https://www.myswissalps.com/travel-ticket/swiss-travel-pass/) for 1st class for that day or that route. You can read about this here:  https://www.myswissalps.com/travel/train/classes/#traveling-in-1st-class-with-a-2nd-class-pass-or-ticket

It doesn’t matter which one you book first, the seats or the upgrade. The point is that at the time of your travel you have to have both. Reservations for the Glacier Express as well as upgrades 2nd to 1st class can also be made online. See below link for details and also purchase options.

If you know your date of travel for the Glacier Express, I’d lock in the seat reservation as soon as you can.  These can sell out as the ride is quite popular.

    Kind regards,

    Yolanda
