Advice for travel from Zurich to Murren

Short summary – read this first

Scott is planning his first trip to Switzerland for a wedding and is looking for advice on traveling from Zurich to Murren by train. He is particularly curious about the best routes and transportation options in Murren, where he will be staying at Hotel Edelweiss.

Key takeaways:
  • Travel from Zurich to Murren via Lucerne and Interlaken to take the Luzern-Interlaken Express for a scenic journey.
  • For your trip, consider purchasing single tickets unless you plan to travel more extensively, in which case the Swiss Half Fare Card may be beneficial.
  • The Hotel Edelweiss is just a 4-minute walk from the Murren BLM train stop, making it easy to reach on foot.

    Hi Scooter,

The Swiss railways timetable gives you the most direct route. I would travel via Lucerne and Interlaken to take the Luzern-Interlaken Express (part of the Golden Pass route) on your way.

    Thank you Lucas,

First time in Switzerland we are looking forward to our trip. We are going for a wedding. Zurich to Murren and then back to Zurich. Should we just buy single trip tickets?

If those are your only trips by bus, train, boat or cable car then most likely single tickets are best, although this year (2018) you can still buy the Swiss Transfer Ticket which is cheaper. It will be discontinued in 2019.

A Swiss Half Fare Card could work out if you are planning to travel around Mürren or other villages for a few days. Read our page here on how to choose the best rail pass to know for sure: https://www.myswissalp s.com/train/ticketspas ses/practical/choosera ilpass

    Thank you Lucas,

We are going to go from the Zurich airport to the Park Inn by Radisson Zurich and stay a few days and then go to Murren. Is there any transportation in Murren to get from the train station to the Hotel Edelweiss such as bicycle taxi’s. Or is there just hoofin it around town?

Thank you for all your assistance.

    Scott

    There’s information on the hotel’s website: http://www.edelweiss-muerren.ch/en/hotel/lo cation-directions/.
