Hi Mahavir,
With a budget of 150-180 CHF /night for accommodation, you should be able to easily find good independent accom in the I/L or Lucerne area. I would look into AirBnb. You don’t have to stay right smack next to the above stations although it would be nice.
The fact that you are getting a STP (https://www.myswissalps.com/travel-ticket/swiss-travel-pass/), you can be a little ways away from the above locations and closer to a train / bus stop for quick connectivity. STP is superb as it allows you to get in on any transport option (not all mountain trains though…) any where within Switzerland.
Instead of Lucerne you can consider Stans (20 mins from Lucerne with frequent trains).
The nice thing with Stans is being a little cheaper, visits to Pilatus, Stanserhorn, Titlis are within a 15-40 min ride and easy to accomplish from Stans.
Stanserhorn is right next to Stans train station.
We did a 15 day trip in Aug /Sep of last year and split our time between Stans (4 days) and Thun (11 days), both places being 5-11 walk mins to the train station with excellent connections to most points of interest on a day trip basis.
I am sure you would have done your research on places to visit and dont forget to do these 3 below that is not publicized much.
Aareschultz aka Aare River Gorge, Trummelbach falls (in Lauterbrunnen), A 40-45 min scenic walk from Murren to Gimmelwald on a nice paved pathway. You will be amazed by the Scenery.
Stanserhorn, Stoos, Mt Rigi, Klenwenalp (from Stans by Bus I think # 311 to Beckenried and a 5 min walk to entrance) are free with STP, all the way to the top and back and should make use of it.
Hope this helps and have a good trip.

Hi Mahavir, – An update to my reply above. With regard to budget, if you are 4 adults, it would be tough. I was under the impression that it was 2 Adults + kids. With the STP if you find a place close to train station, further out from the designated area you may be lucky. Apologize for the wrong info.

Hello every member of this forum
I want to focus on Ram’s reply THREE, one of the best replies I have read in the eleven months I have been participating in this forum.
Ram has found a magic formula for a good Swiss holiday/vacation. Invest in a Swiss Transport Pass (https://www.myswissalps.com/travel-ticket/swiss-travel-pass/ ) and stay at or near a major public transport hub. As he says ‘You don’t have to stay right smack next to the … stations although it would be nice.’
Stans This small town is a suprisingly good hub. As well as being on the busy Lucerne to Engelberg line, there is the 311 bus route to Beckenried, Emmetten and Seelisberg, the 313 to Saanen on the Lucerne to Interlaken line, and the mountain line to Stanserhorn. And as Ram says, you are only twenty minutes from the major city of Lucerne, bang in the centre of Switzerland, with through trains to Geneva, Lugano, Locarno and St Gallen.
There are many other small towns which are good transport hubs. Goldau (where Arth-Goldau station is situated), and Spiez are major railway junctions which also have good bus services. Along the Rhone Valley there are a whole string of small towns stretching from Aigle to Visp which have excellent train and BUS services. One of the best holidays I have ever had was based in Martigny.
Thun ( https://www.myswissalps.com/town/thun/) is a medium sized town, in many respects like Lucerne but on a smaller scale. The train and bus service is incredibly good. Like at Lucerne, the lake boats tie up right next to the bus and train station. Bern, with through trains to all over Switzerland, is just twenty minutes away by InterCity train. Other good medium sized towns are Chur and Sion, both of which I have stayed at. A lot of my travelling form those two towns was by BUS.
Kind Regards
Roger

Hi mahavir,
July is peak season so accommodation will be more expensive than usual. You may also find that apartment stays may request a minimum of at least 7 days but there is no harm in asking if they may accept a shorter stay.
As an alternative, you may to check out the budget hotel options in the link below. They could be more reasonably priced during July.
Also Youth Hostels are good value too. (You can still have a private bathroom as well).
Kind regards,
Yolanda
