Sindhu ramak is planning a trip with her husband and toddler from St. Moritz to Zermatt on July 12. She is confused about whether the Glacier Express can take them on this route and how to book seats through Omio, especially with a Swiss 3-day Saver Pass. If the Glacier Express option doesn't work out, she wants to know the best scenic route using regular trains.
Key takeaways:
Take the Glacier Express from St. Moritz to Zermatt as it's the right train for that route.
When booking seats on the Glacier Express, use the official site to ensure seat selection and confirm reservations.
If using regular trains, check the SBB timetable for a scenic route via Andermatt.

Most importantly will BEX take me from st. moritz to zermatt ? 2nd If I book on Omio how do I select the seats as omio.com doesnt have that option. many forums and omio service center said select your seats on RHB website but how do I do that when it doesn’t throw that option. And 3rd what option do I choose on Omio.com If I have a swiss 3 day saver pass.
If this doesnt happen I will be forced to take normal trains which would require multiple changes which will be a bit difficult. If left with no choice, am ready to do the same but want to know the best scenic route to reach Zermat from moritz.
You’re looking at the wrong train I guess. It is the Glacier Express that connects St. Moritz to Zermatt. Please see http://www.myswissalps.com/gl acierexpress for all details, including a map.
I am not sure which pass you have. There are no products called Swiss 3 day Saver Pass. There is the Swiss Travel Pass, and the Saver Day Pass. I guess you have one of those?
Highly recommend you don’t use third party web sites. In my opinion it is never safe to do so as you don’t get the information direct from the operating company. I realise it is hard because the big minus point of the way the internet works nowadays is that a search leads you to all manner of unofficial web sites and pages and it is extremely difficult to identify the ‘proper’ official site.
I’ve found the misleading (plain wrong!) statement on Omio:
Trains in Switzerland
Although Switzerland is a small country, there are countless rail links between the large urban centers, small regional towns, and international destinations. Train journeys connect and coordinate with railway companies from its neighboring countries Germany, France, and Italy. The busiest route is from Bern to Zurich and Basel, though other popular routes include the “Glacier Express” and the “Bernina Express” which journey through the Swiss Alps from St. Moritz to Zermatt in about eight hours and cross 291 bridges, 91 tunnel passes, and up to altitudes of 2000 meters.
I’ve never been to that site. They need a new copy writer! There is more later . . .
“Scenic Swiss Train Routes
Switzerland’s natural beauty can be explored particularly well by train. For example, the Glacier Express (known as the “slowest express train in the world”) features particularly scenic routes. For approximately 7 hours you will travel in the Glacier Express’ panoramic car from Zermatt to St. Moritz through untouched mountain landscapes, impressive bridges, and deep ravines.
Another Swiss train attraction is the Golden Pass— a combination of Swiss railway company routes including the Montreux-Berner Oberland-Bahn, the Zentralbahn, and the BLS Lötschbergbahn. The Golden Pass travels from Lucerne via Interlaken Ost to Montreux in just under 5 hours. The almost 200-kilometer route leads through lakes, pastures, vineyards, and the Grand Chalet— the largest wooden house in Switzerland
For those who crave nostalgia, the GoldenPass Classic is particularly interesting. This train is designed in the style of Europe’s Belle Epoque and guarantees a very special excursion.
Finally, a 9-kilometer route between Kleine Scheidegg— a pass in the Bernese Oberland— up to the Jungfraujoch (also known as “Top of Europe” located 3454 meters above sea level) offers magnificent mountain vistas. The so-called Jungfrauffahrt takes about an hour and passes through 2 Swiss mountains. This exceptional views can be observed the whole time through the train’s windows.“
So glad to have “Jungfrau ffahrt” added to my vocabulary. 😉
But i still need help with respect to the route i need to take from moritz to zermatt where a good amount of journey overlaps with bernina route on normal trains.
If you reserve Glacier Express seats using the link I provided you just nominate that you have your own ticket (which is what the Saver Day Pass is) during the booking process.
I you decide to use regular trains you just need to look for St Moritz to Zermatt via Andermatt using the timetable on the SBB website (bit.ly/2HH1U7B) or the highly-recommended SBB Mobile app (bit.ly/2ICIUHi).
