    Hello,

This will be my first international trip, so I know I will be a bit anxious that I make it to the airport with plenty of time for the flight home. The flight isn’t until late afternoon, so we have that in our favor.

I was wondering what the best route would be from Murren to Zurich Airport on a Saturday. At this point, our Berner Oberland Pass will expire, but we will still have the Swiss Half Fare Pass.

    Thank you,

    Stacey

Muerren – Grutschalp – Lauterbrunnen – Interlaken Ost – Bern – Zurich is the best route. You should make sure to use the direct route IC81 services Interlaken – Zurich Flughafen (depart Interlaken every 2 hours on the hour – ie 09.00, 11.00 etc . in fact the two departures given will be the most suited to your flight time as the journey is around 1.5 hours Interlaken – Zurich Flughafen

    Hi Stacey,

Please be aware that the journey from Mürren to Zurich Airport takes about 3 – 3.5 hours and you will need to switch trains a few times. Plan to leave as early as possible and allocate enough time for check-in.

You can check train schedules and search for suitable connection on the SBB timetable: http://www.myswissalps.com/timetable

    Regards,

    Anna

Thank you so much for your detailed responses! This is very helpful. I do have a concern that the small train from Murren to Grutschalp and then the cable car won’t start running as early on a Saturday as I would like. I will check the link you left. Do those small connections show up on the SBB timetable? If not, where can I find those?

Thanks again for all your wonderful help,

    Stacey

The train from Murren to Grutschalp starts plenty early enough (first train 06.06 from Murren)

    Hello Stacey,

Just to add, yes, all your route, including the cable cars will be shown on the timetables. Once you have ‘chosen’ a departure time, click and it will detail all sections, including changes and if it is indeed a cable car, bus or train that you would be boarding.

    Kind regards,

    Yolanda

However if you board at Murren railway station, you won’t need to check the timetable, as it will be the BLM route , ie

BLM railway train along the ‘side’ of the mountains Murren to Grutschalp

BLM railway connecting cable car Grutschalp – Lauterbrunnen

railway trains thereafter, changing from BOB to SBB at Interlaken Ost (if you follow my earlier suggestion of aiming for the direct IC train to Zurich
