After MUCH review of regional travel passes, we’re still very confused which is the “best value” for our travels. Berner Oberland Regional Pass?? Jungfrau Travel Pass? Other?

We will need train transportation from Interlaken Ost to Lauterbrunnen (where we’re lodging). Then, we’ll need multiple trains, cable cars, funiculars, PostBus, etc. to access hiking trails in the area. Ex: Mannlichen-Kleine Scheidegg, Kleinie-Scheidegg Walk, Eiger Trail, North Face Trail, Schilthorn, the Cloudy Lauterbrunnen Walk, Grindelwald area, etc. We’ll be in the BO area for 5 days, and will not be traveling elsewhere in Switzerland.

Our budget requires a quality purchase that includes these possible travel methods: Schilthorn cable car, Grütschalp cable car, Mürren train, Allmendhubel funicular, Wengen train, Männlichen lift, lift at Gimmelwald to Schilthornbahn station near Stechelberg, PostBus to Trümmelbach Falls, Grindelwald area, etc. Totally understand that some passes will only provide a discount on Schilthorn.

(We are not planning on traveling to Jungfraujoch, so that expense does NOT need to be included.)

We would greatly appreciate wisdom and recommendations on which pass best covers a train from Interlaken to Lauterbrunnen, as well as the varied travel methods (mentioned above) around Lauterbrunnen, Mürren, Wengen areas?

Adding up the individual transport fees is inconclusive, as our specific travels will largely be determined by weather. Thus, it seems one pass covering varied transport makes most sense. Please advise!

How are you arriving in Interlaken and where are you going when you leave the Jungfrau Region? That may make a difference in which pass may be best.

Conventional advice is that you should read “How to choose the best travel pass” (http://www.myswissalps.com/tr ain/ticketspasses/prac tical/chooserailpass), download the handy spreadsheet calculator and do the math. But maybe you already did that?

Hello rockoyster,

We’re arriving in Interlaken via TGV Lyria from Paris, and will return to Paris after our time around Lauterbrunnen. Roundtrip TGV tickets from Paris to Interlaken have already been purchased. Thus, looking for best value in transportation (for 5 days) around Lauterbrunnen, Wengen, Murren, etc.

Yes, I’ve been told to add up individual transport fares to compare with a regional pass. This is inconclusive though, as our travels will largely be determined by weather. It seemed one pass covering varied transport makes the most sense.

In that case there is not much to choose between the two regional passes you are considering.

You would have to weigh up the benefits to you of each based on the cost and coverage of each. See:
