Buying tickets to Sunnegga via SBB app

Short summary – read this first

A traveler is trying to buy tickets for the Zermatt-Sunnegga funicular and the Zermatt-Klein Matterhorn gondola using the SBB app, but can't see prices and wonders if their half fare card is valid. They seek clarity on whether they can only buy tickets from the Zermatt Bergbahnen website.

Key takeaways:
  • You can use the Swiss Half Fare Card to purchase discounted tickets for the Sunnegga funicular.
  • Mountain transport tickets often need to be bought from private operators, so check both the official website and ticket machine for options.
  • If you have trouble finding tickets online, try searching 'tickets from Zermatt to Sunnegga' for more resources.

I want to buy tickets on the Zermatt-Sunnegga funicular and the Zermatt-Klein Matterhorn gondola using the SBB app. The schedules show up but not the pricing. On the ticketing page of the app it says “There is no offer available for this connection/zone”.

    Is this accurate?

Am I limited to purchasing only on the Zermatt Bergbahnen (ZB) website?

Is my half fare card valid with ZB?

    Hi Cyclefiend,

Yes, with the Swiss Half Fare Card, you can purchase discounted tickets to Sunnegga. You can find information about tickets to Sunnegga-Rothorn here: http://www.myswissalps.com/sunneggarothorn/tickets

In general, mountain transportations are run by private operators. Mountain excursion tickets not available on the SBB can be purchased online from the official website or directly from the ticket counter or ticket machine. Choose the half-fare option or present your Swiss Half Fare Card before making payment.

    Hi Cyclefiend,

Several mountain transport tickets can be purchased via other websites too, but sometimes you are limited to the operator only, like Anna said. For Klein Matterhorn the alternatives are listed here: http://www.myswissalps.com/kleinmatterhorn/tickets

    Hi Anna,

Thanks for the explanation. We went to the Zermatt Bergbahnen ticket office, showed our HFC and bought the tickets. Went very smoothly. Thanks for the information.

    Cheers,

    Andy
