Book Glacier Expr from Zermatt but get on in Brig?
A traveler is visiting Switzerland and wants to ride the Glacier Express, but they can only catch the train in Brig. They've found tickets from Zermatt but wonder if they can board in Brig instead, and if there are regular trains on the same route as alternatives.
- If you can’t get a seat on the Glacier Express, you can make a reservation from Zermatt and board in Brig.
- Regular commuter trains follow a similar route to the Glacier Express and don’t require reservations, but may involve train changes at Andermatt and Disentis.
- Use the SBB Timetable to plan your journey effectively, especially if you're unfamiliar with the system.

I was fortunate enough to get a last minute trip to Switzerland. I want to ride the Glacier Express and will be coming early in the morning from Geneva. I can’t get all the way to Zermatt but could catch the train in Brig. Unfortunately, there are no tickets left from Brig but there are tickets from Zermatt. Is it possible to pay for a ticket but get on in Brig?
If this is not a possibility, do regular commuter trains ride the same lines? If they do, what is the downside of these trains vs the Glacier Express?
Thanks!
