A traveler is visiting Switzerland next month and will stay in Zurich for a few nights. They want to know how to use the Swiss Half Fare Card for local travel discounts and how to plan their trip to Lucerne and Mount Titlis. They’re seeking clarity on ticket purchasing options and discounts available for tourists.
Key takeaways:
Yes, tourists can purchase a ZVV 9'o clock day pass using the Swiss Half Fare Card for a 50% discount.
A point-to-point ticket from Ebikon to Titlis includes the train and cable car segments, costing CHF 49.10 with the Swiss Half Fare Card.
If you need to travel within Lucerne after returning from Titlis, you will need to buy an additional ticket for that zone.

I am visiting Switzerland next month and I will be based in Zurich for a couple of nights. My current plan is to buy a Swiss half fare card and pair it with either the Jungfrau or the Berner Oberland pass based on how I can plan my itinerary.
My current question is specific to travel around Zurich for the 2/3 days I am based there.
1) I see that I can buy day pass / 9’00 am pass on the ZVV app – and there is also mention of getting a 50% discount with a half fare travelcard.
Wanted to confirm if this discount also applies for tourists with the Swiss half fare card or only for Swiss/Zurich locals who have the Half fare travelcard.
2) Also, I have read that tourists don’t need to create a Swiss pass login and cant link the Half fare card on the SBB mobile app. Is there a setting in the app to still apply the 50% discount discount pertaining to the Swiss half fare card if we end up buying point to point tickets or Saver Day passes.
Thank you for your questions. Here are your answers below with some handy links that’ll help you out as well.
1. Yes, you can absolutely buy a ZVV 9’o clock day pass with your Swiss Half Fare Card.
2. This is correct, there is no need to create a Swiss Pass login, this is geared towards local residents. Generally speaking the SBB app defaults to half price pricing anyways as most ‘travelers’ will hold the local half fare card.
Feel free to reach out if you have further questions.
Kind regards,
Yolanda

Thanks a lot for your reply Yolanda. Will surely go through the links for further planning.
Have a follow-up query wrt the next leg of my journey. Would be great if you could help out.
From Zurich, we head out to Lucerne for a couple of nights. We will be based in Ebikon.
Our plan is to explore Lucerne city on the day we reach and then travel to Mount Titlis the next day. So that will involve
Day 1:
Travelling from
Zurich > Lucerne > Ebikon. (Drop off our bags)
Ebikon > Lucerne (Explore the city and back) > Ebikon
Question:
1) Per my understanding, A point to point ticket from Zurich HB to Lucerne (13.5 CHF) with an extension of a City Pass for zone 10 (6.8 CHF) should be able to cover this entire trip. Hope am correct about this.
Day 2:
Ebikon > Titlis
Based on my looking around, I saw that this journey would involve multiple segments
Ebikon > Lucerne
Lucerne > Engelberg
Engelberg > Titlis Base Valley Station
Gondola 1 > Stand
Rotair to Titlis
Question:
I tried looking up the booking from Ebikon to Titlis and found the following on the SBB app (screenshot attached)
It mentions the Point to Point ticket From Ekibon to Titlis via (luzern/Engelberg/Stand) is currently CHF 49.10.
2.a) Just wanted to confirm does this ticket cover the entire journey from Ebikon to Titlis (including the Rotair) and back to Ebikon ?
2.b) If the Point to Point journey Tickets cover the return Journey as well (as indicated in the screenshot – “One way or Return ticket in Switzerland”) – what is the difference between the Point to point ticket and the Day saver pass ?
1. For day 1. Depending which route you take to reach Ebikon on your arrival day, the Lucerne city upgrade ticket will differ, either way the cost of this day’s trip with Swiss Half Fare Card would cost 20.30 chf.
A Saver Day Pass (https://www.myswissalps.com/travel-ticket/saver-day-pass/) would not fully help you out for a trip to Titlis as it would not allow you to travel up to the top, you’d need to purchase an additional ticket from Engelberg. However, if you were planning on traveling afterwards within the same day, in Switzerland, this would be covered. Click on the link provided, all is explained how a Saver Day Pass works 🙂
I hope all is clear. Do reach out if there are further questions.
1) Is my understanding that point to point ticket (worth CHF 49.10) would cover journeys
from Ebikon to Titlis
and
Titlis to Ebikon – correct ?
2) Also – In case, after getting down at Lucerne on my way back from Titlis – I need to get another bus/train (say to visit the Swiss transport museum) – would that be covered or would I need to purchase a Lucerne Zone 10 ticket for that ?
Apologies, if my queries are too specific – just want to understand how it would work.
The point-to-point ticket at CHF49.10 is valid for a single journey from Ebikon to Titlis (discounted with Swiss Half Fare Card). This includes the train journey from Ebikon to Engelberg (CHF9.10) and the cable car ticket from Engelberg to Titlis (CHF36.50). Please note the ticket prices for Titlis vary according to the season.
