  • You can rent snow boots and warm jackets on Mount Titlis, but Rigi does not offer rental equipment.

    Hello Everyone,

We’re planning visiting Lucerne area later this month (December 18th-21th) with our 2 daughters (4.5, 12).

We’re coming from a suuny country so we’re not used and well equiped to snow.

We’re planning to enjoy the city, museum of transportation, christmas lights and markets etc, but we would like to spend at least one day in the snow – in Titlis or Rigi or both (if we’ll get used to the cold…).We won’t ski. but thinking maybe of sledging in Rigi or snowtubing and some snow experience in Titlis.

    I have some questions please:

    1. Is Titlis much colder than rigi?

    2. Will we need ski clothes for that kind of activities? It’s very expensive and i’m not sure if it’s worth it for only 1-2 hours in the snow.

    3. Is it possible to rent ski clothes arount Titlis? and around Rigi?

    4. Do we need ski boots, or normal water proof walking shoes / rain boots will be enough? (with 2 layers of socks)?

    Thank you very much!

Hello Simis and welcome to MySwissAlps,

You and your daughters will surely enjoy Switzerland, be welcome!

In short: you will need warm clothes and shoes, and you should not worry about fashion.

    1. It will be colder on Titlis, but you don’t have to stay outside for a long time. Rigi will be cold, too, mind you. But the higher you go, the colder it gets, and Titlis is higher.

    2. You don’t need ski equipment. For sledging and snow tubing jeans will be fine, I suggest also to have “long johns” (underpants with legs). And warm socks, good boots.

    3. I’ll let someone else answer that one.

    4. Normal waterproof walking shoes would be fine. No sneakers, though. And, as you say, two layers of socks, or warm socks, maybe wool.

    Enjoy the stay!

    Hello Simis,

As already said, you will need warm clothes.

On Mount Titlis you can rent snow boots and warm jackets for a reasonable price and also do the so-called “Titlis Ski Experience”, which you can either find as a guided tour or book with individual arrival. Please see – http://www.myswissalps.com/ac tivities/sports – and change “”Attraction type” to “Wintersports” for details.

On Mount Rigi I believe you CAN’T rent equipment.
