Day tours or swiss pass

Short summary – read this first

Divya, traveling with three friends, is visiting Zurich from June 25 to 28 and wants advice for maximizing their time. They are considering either Day Tours or purchasing the Swiss Travel Pass to see places like Lucerne, Interlaken, and the Rhine Falls. They need help figuring out which option is more cost-effective and efficient.

Key takeaways:
  • Opt for the Swiss Travel Pass for maximum flexibility as it provides free travel on trains, buses, and trams, plus discounts on mountain transport and free entry to many museums.
  • Avoid planning a day trip to Jungfraujoch as it requires about 4.5 hours one way from Zurich, leaving little time for other activities.
  • Check the weather forecast before heading to Jungfraujoch to ensure clear views, as cloud cover can obscure the sights.

    Hi,

    We ( 4 ladies ) will be staying at Zurich – landing at 6.30 am on 25 june – to departing on 28 June 11 am , ( 3 days )

Day 1 – Zurich to Lucerne , Mt Titlis etc and back to Zurich

Day 2 – Zurich to Interlaken , Jungfrau, Grindlewad, and all sightseeing places in that zone like museums and caves etc

Day 3 – Rhine falls and Zurich city.

Please advise if we should opt for Day Tours from Zurich or buy the Swiss pass.

Which will be cheaper, cover all sightseeing and save us on time.

As we would like to see maximum number of places .

    Thanx

    Divya

    Hi Divya,

A 3-day Swiss Saver Flexi Pass would give you maximum flexibility and convenience on June 25, 26 and 27. Trains, buses, trams, boats are free so you do not need tickets and can board immediately. Mountain transport is discounted. Many museums are free too. In your case you can best check prices in rupees here, or see all resellers and pass details here: http://www.myswissalps.com/sw issflexipass

I’m not sure what you mean by Day Tours. Do you mean guided trips? I would recommend to travel on your own with the mentioned pass. That way you can decide where to go and how long you stay, instead of being restricted to a fixed program.

Day 2 isn’t really doable. Just the trip from Zurich to the Jungfraujoch is 4.5 hours one way, so there is not a lot of time left to see anything else that day. Be sure to check the weather forecast before making this trip, as there won’t be any views if it is cloudy. See here for details about the Jungfraujoch.

Hotel tips for Zurich can be found here.

    I hope this helps!
