Hello. We have the Swiss Travel Flex Pass and plan to train around everywhere, but since can be many stations in a city or town, how do I know which one to select? For example, from Bern to Interlaken. Obviously I want a station close to our hotel, but which station do I start at? I’ve looked on the SBB app and some others, and I get confused. Any suggestions or recommendations? Thanks for your help; love these forums!

    Hi Sfarns216,

You can find more information about how to use the timetable here: http://www.myswissalps.com/timetable.

For your information, most cities and towns only have one central train station. If you input the exact location (City, Street, No) in the departure and destination boxes, the timetable will display the fastest connection and even includes map and direction to the closest station and destination.

You can find more useful information about how to travel on Swiss trains here: http://www.myswissalps.com/train/practical/howtotravel

    Hope this helps.

    Regards,

    Anna

    Hi Sfarns216,

It sort of sounds to me like you’re somewhat planning your trip backwards. If you haven’t already, try to plan your hotels around what towns/villages/cities you’re visiting. When I planned my two week trip, I first laid out my itinerary, (cities/villages/etc) then picked my hotels by their vicinity to the train station (as well as my price range, and reviews, etc). I happened to use Booking.com, but there are many sites to choose from. Also a lot of hotels on this site as well. Also, a good tool to use is Google maps. It can show you not only train stations, (and schedules) but hotels, restaurants, bars….pretty much anything you need to know about a towns businesses, and such. Look through that, and post more questions if you have any. Have fun planning, and your trip as well.

    Hi Sfarns216!

The main station is often simply called by the town’s name, so the main station of Bern is “Bern”. Stations with further additions are smaller train stations, or tram and bus stops. Interlaken has 2 major stations: “Interlaken Ost” and “Interlaken West”.

We have travel sections for many of our town pages, in which specific station names are mentioned too. For example:

We also provide our personal hotel suggestions for each town, e.g.

You’ll find all of our town pages here: http://www.myswissalps.com/wheretogo/towns.

Note that you can also enter exact addresses in the Swiss timetable, e.g. your hotel’s address. If you put that in as your destination, the timetable will automatically show which train, bus or tram stop is closest to it. The timetable page Anna linked to can help you learn to use it properly. Maps, as Danielsan suggested, are very helpful too.

Thanks for replying Anna, Danielsan and Arno. It does clear up the many names that get listed – tram stops, etc., that I can ignore. I will stick with the main station based on the city name, as Anna said. Our hotel selections were sort of pre-determined, so that’s why the planning confusion, Danielsan. And I’ve investigated quite a few links and pages in MySwissAlps, Arno, as we’ve been reading and planning our trip, but will check out some of your suggestions. We’ll be in Switzerland on August 1st so it’s almost time! Thank you all so much.

Happy to hear your plan is coming together now. I hope you’ll have an amazing stay in Switzerland. We’d love to hear about your experiences once you’re back (see https://www.myswissalps.com/forum/tripreports), but that’s no obligation of course.
