Does Interlaken Guest Card cover Lauterbrunnen?

Short summary – read this first

A traveler will be in Interlaken for 3 nights and is wondering if the guest card provided by their host will cover train fares to Wengen, Lauterbrunnen, Grindelwald, and Bern. They are seeking advice on whether cheaper bus options are available since the guest card has limited validity for trains.

Key takeaways:
  • The Interlaken guest card provides limited transportation coverage and is not valid for trips beyond Wilderswil.
  • Consider purchasing a Saver Day Pass for broader coverage on Swiss public transport, including connections to Lauterbrunnen.
  • Keep in mind that the Saver Day Pass does not cover mountain transport like cable cars; plan to buy separate tickets for those excursions.

    No.

Guest cards very rarely give much in the way of discounts

The Interlaken guest card gives very limited validity on railways. Certainly it is not valid anywhere near Bern, it is not even valid on lines towards Spiez or Thun. It is only valid on the train as far as Wilderswil.

    Yes, that is correct.

Last time I holidayed in the area we stayed at a camp site and used the guest card just to ride on the local buses, when we were not using our Berner Oberland Pass

    Hi JD65535,

The Saver Day Pass is valid on all Swiss public transport so you can use it for the train travel between Interlaken and Lauterbrunnen. Do take note however that the pass is not valid on mountain transportation such as the cable car to Schilthorn. You will need to buy a standard ticket if you plan to do any mountain excursion. You can find more information about where the Saver Day Pass is valid here: http://www.myswissalps.com/saverdaypass/validity

    regards,

    Anna
