A traveler wants to visit Reichenbach Falls on October 11th after exploring the Aare Gorge. They're concerned about the funicular being closed and are seeking alternative ways to reach the falls, especially considering the hiking options available.
Key takeaways:
The funicular to Reichenbach Falls closes on October 6th, so you will need to hike from Zwirgi bus stop, which takes about an hour round trip.
To reach Zwirgi, take bus number 164 from the Aareschlucht West station, or you can hike directly from the Aare Gorge.
Hiking to the falls is free since you won't need to pay for the funicular.
Starting your hike from the east entrance of the Aare Gorge for a more exciting experience is recommended.

Hi Fsuar,
it operates until 6 October 2019.
You can still walk to the Reichenbach falls from the bus stop Zwirgi (bus nr 164). It takes around 1 hour down to the falls and then back to Zwirgi but you will see more viewpoints. The road goes troughs the woods, there are steps and the trail is a bit grumpy.

Thank you for your response.
From Aareschlucht West bus station take a bus to Zwirgi station. From there it is a 1 hour round trip hike to and from the falls?

Aareschlucht West is a train station. You can get from there to Meiringen, where you can change to the bus to Zwirgi. From Zwirgi it takes 30 mins down and 30 mins up (back to Zwirgi). OR you can walk in an hour to Zwirgi from the Aare Gorge too.

Okay thank you. Yes we plan on spending the following two days in the Lauterbrunnen Valley area.
Since we will definitely be at the Aare Gorge I thought might as well see Reichenbach Falls also. Since the funicular is closed we were hoping there would be another way. The hike to and from Zwirgi seems like our only option.
I’m assuming since we won’t have to pay for the funicular, we can hike to the falls and there will be no charge?

Aare Gorge is nice, it has 2 entrances, I prefer to start from the east entrance (near Innertkirchen) and finish at the west entrance (near Meiringen), so the way gets more and more exciting.
