A traveler named JeanA105 is planning a trip from Zermatt to Venice in mid-September and is considering taking the Glacier Express to St Moritz. They want advice on whether to spend a night in St Moritz or continue traveling to a different destination before heading to Venice.
Key takeaways:
Spend a night in St Moritz to enjoy the scenery and relax before the next leg of your journey.
Use the SBB website or mobile app to plan your train travel and buy tickets easily.
Consider taking the Bernina train from St Moritz to Tirano for a beautiful route to Venice.

We will be leaving Zermatt mid-September en route to Venice and would like to take the Glacier Express as far as St Moritz, then continue by train to Venice. It appears that the Glacier Express section would take approx. 8 hours. Would it be best to plan a night in St Moritz, or travel farther to a different hub before the last leg of the trip to Venice? Thank you for any recommendations!
Perhaps others who have first hand experience of this trip will be able to comment further.
All the best on your trip!
Maria.

I’d say Zermatt to St Moritz is enough train travel in one day for most mortals.
Use the timetable on the SBB website (bit.ly/2HH1U7B) or the highly-recommended SBB Mobile app (bit.ly/2ICIUHi) to plan your travel and buy tickets if required. If you are not familiar with using the timetable it will pay to first read the instructions on this page – http://www.myswissalps.com/ti metable.
We did this trip the other way around last year and it worked well to spend a night in St. Moritz. We left Venice and traveled to St. Moritz (via Milan) in one day, then spent the night in St. Moritz and headed out on the Glacier Express the next morning. It helped that we spent the night at the Waldhaus am See hotel, right next to the train station. Nice hotel and very convenient. I’m a train lover, but either leg of that trip was plenty for one day.
My wife and I will be doing this trip ( Zermatt to St Moritz ) as well. The trip will be long so do take the advice to get off in St Moritz, refresh and relax for the next leg of your journey. Getting from St. Moritz to Venice – depends on your time frame and pocket book. We are taking the Bernina south to Tirano – I recently read of another doing that as well. From Tirano the trains are a bit slower. So we are going to Lake Como, then on to Mantua for us before Venice. You could go directly from Lake Como to V Venice or stop elsewhere along the route – these trains go a bit faster. You could throw Milan into the mix as well
Time – Money these are the factors to consider.
