Glacier Express with Saver Day Pass

Short summary – read this first

Suzanna is planning to take the Glacier Express from Zermatt to St. Moritz and is considering the best ticket options. She's comparing costs between the Swiss Half Fare Card and the Swiss Saver Pass to save money on her trip. She's looking for clarification on discounts and pricing strategies.

Key takeaways:
  • If you have a Swiss Half Fare Card, remember it provides a 50% discount on the ticket price, but you'll still need a paid seat reservation.
  • Purchasing a Swiss Saver Day Pass can offer significant savings, especially if you buy it early, as prices vary daily.
  • HappyRail is a legitimate option for purchasing your tickets and often has better deals compared to official sources.

    Hi All

I intend to buy a Swiss Half Fare Card and planned to take the Glacier Express from Zermatt to St Moritz. With SHF 1st class will be CHF 134 (50% off).

If I buy a Swiss Saver Pass for that day cost me CHF 58 (1st class). So does it means I got a saving of CHF 76?

I did not take in account of SHF cost of CHF120 because I will be using it for other trains trip.

Appreciate all advise. Thanks in advance.

    Hi Suzanna,

If you have a valid Swiss Half Fare Card (http://www.myswissalps.com/swisshalffarecard/price), then you get 50% off from the ticket price. Note, that you also need a seat reservation and there is no discount on that.

If you have a valid Saver Day Pass (http://www.myswissalps.com/saverdaypass/price), you do not need to pay anything for your Glacier Express ticket, but you still need to pay the seat reservation.

If you have a valid Swiss Half Fare Card, you can get the Saver Day Pass with a discount. I cannot tell you, for how much, as the price of the Saver Day pass may vary. Read more at http://www.myswissalps.com/saverdaypass/price.

So yes, you can make a great deal if you have both of them 🙂

    Hi

I checked the price for Saver Day Pass (26/3/2022) on SBB was CHF 74 (2nd class) but on HappyRail (3rd party) was only CHF 58 and for this price I even get a 1st class ticket. Can I know why the different is so much and also is it ok to buy from HappyRail?

    Thank in advance.

    Rgds

    Hi Suzanna,

Yes, just to clarify, Happy Rail is a legit company and has been MySwissAlps’ partner for a while.

For your information, the Saver Day Pass discounts vary from day to day. The early you book, the cheaper the pass and they do run out. My assumption is that some retailers have a system in place to pre-book in advance.

    Hope this helps.

    Regards,

    Anna
