GoldenPass Express with Eurail Global Pass

Short summary – read this first

A traveler named TravisL has successfully booked seat reservations for the GoldenPass Express train in Prestige class on December 11th. He wants to know if his 1st Class Eurail Pass is accepted for this route, similar to the older GoldenPass trains, and if a seat reservation is necessary for the Luzern-Interlaken Express.

Key takeaways:
  • You can use your 1st Class Eurail Global Pass on the GoldenPass Express train, including Prestige Class, but seat reservations are mandatory and can be limited.
  • No seat reservation is needed for the Luzern-Interlaken Express, as it has high passenger capacity and operates on a different route.

    Hi,

I was able to secure seat reservation on the Dec 11 2022 GoldenPass Express train in Prestige class.

According to their website, a 1st Class is required.

Can someone help confirm if the 1st Class EURail Pass is accepted on this train? I tried email them but didn’t get any response.

    Thanks!

    Hi TravisL,

If you have a 1st Class Eurail Global Pass, you can travel for free in 1st class on the Golden Pass train. Seat reservation is recommended but not obligatory. With a 1st Class Eurail Pass you can also travel on the Prestige Class. However it is mandatory to make a seat reservation and the availability at the moment is quite limited. You can find further details here: http://www.myswissalps.com/goldenpass/tickets

    Hi Anna,

    Thanks for the confirmation!

I did mange to grab 3 Prestige Class seat reservations on the their first train on Dec 11th from Montreux to Interlaken.

Just want to make sure the EURail pass is treated the same way on new GoldenPass Express compare to the older GoldenPass trains.

I also plan to take the Luzern-Interlaken Express to get to Luzern, is there a need for seat reservation on this route?

    Regards,

    Travis

There is no need to reserve a seat on the Luzern – Interlaken express trains service. Luzern – Interlaken is the Brunig railway (a former Swiss federal railways route) passing over the low altitude Brunig pass. The railway is slightly less sinuous than the MOB Golden Pass line so the trains are longer so they have a high passenger capacity

    Hi Travis,

you can find the validity map of the Eurail Global Pass here: http://www.myswissalps.com/eurailglobalpass/validity. You might want to have a look at it later as well. Yes, you can use your pass also on the new GoldenPass Express as well: https://www.myswissalps.com/goldenpass/tickets.

    Have a great journey!
