Which route/price to Männlichen and Kleine Scheidegg from Wengen?

Short summary – read this first

A traveler is planning a trip to Lauterbrunnen in mid-June and wants to hike from Mannlichen to Klein Scheidegg. They're confused about transportation costs for gondolas and trains and are looking for an efficient route for their 2.5-day stay.

Key takeaways:
  • For the trip from Lauterbrunnen to Männlichen, the cost is CHF 36.20, and returning from Kleine Scheidegg to Lauterbrunnen is CHF 44.40.
  • You do not need to buy tickets in advance for trains or cable cars as they do not sell out.
  • Consider using the SBB timetable to calculate fares but remember that prices shown by default are half-fare; double them if you don't have a Swiss Half Fare Card.

Staying in Lauterbrunnen (with a car) mid-June and really hoping to do the hike from Mannlichen to Klein Scheidegg if it’s open by June 12th or 13th. I’m trying to budget for the trip and am so confused by the fares for gondolas/trains etc.  (I’m assuming it doesn’t makes sense for us to have a Swiss Half Fare pass since we are only in the area for 2.5 days. Although we do plan to hopefully go paragliding from Murren)

Looking for suggested route – should we train from Lauterbrunnen to Wengen, cable car to Mannlichen then walk to Klein Scheidegg, and then train back to Lauterbrunnen via Wengen?

If so, how much would this cost?  Thanks very much!

    Hi London,

The trip Lauterbrunnen-Männlichen costs CHF 36.20, and the trip Kleine Scheidegg-Lauterbrunnen costs CHF 44.40.

You can get prices for this by using the SBB timetable. You need to be aware that the prices shown by default are half-fare, so you will need to double them if you don’t have the Swiss Half Fare Card. For your trip up to Mannlichen, put in From Lauterbrunnen / To Männlichen (Luftseilb. Wengen). For the trip back from Kleine Scheidegg, put Kleine Scheidegg to Lauterbrunnen.

There’s no need to buy tickets ahead of time for either the trains or the cable car, as they do not sell out and pricing is static.

    Here is the SBB timetable:

If you need assistance with using it, you will find that information here:

You can also download a price list from the Männlichen site:

See this recent post for a map showing what trails are open at any given time:

    Hope this helps!

    Hi London1642,

    Welcome to MySwissAlps.

In addition to Alpenrose’s suggestion, you could also drive to Grindelwald Terminal, park your car there and take the cable car to Männlichen. In Männlichen, hike the panorama trail to Kleine Scheidegg and return to Grindelwald by train.

You can find details about route and pricing here: https://www.myswissalps.com/activity/mannlichen/

    Regards,

    Anna
