Grindelwald or Interlaken as a base for 2 days

Short summary – read this first

A traveler named Baban is planning a family trip to Switzerland from mid-September. They will stay in Lucerne and then move to the Jungfrau region wanting advice on accommodations and travel options back to Zurich after exploring Grindelwald, Murren, and Interlaken.

Key takeaways:
  • Both Grindelwald and Interlaken are good options for accommodation; Interlaken is larger with more shopping while Grindelwald is quieter and more scenic.
  • Use the provided train timetable to find the best connections from either Grindelwald or Interlaken to Zurich; it’s an excellent tool for planning.
  • Be sure to check what you’d like to do in Zurich for your short sightseeing before leaving; planning in advance can maximize your time.

Please help me with 2 quarries.

I will travel to Switzerland with my family from 12th September 2019 to 17thSeptember. I am from India. After landing in Zurich on 12th noon,I will straight away head to Lucerne where my stay is already booked.I will check out from Lucerne on 14th September and head towards Jungfrau region. And want to stay there till 16th September.I want to cover Jungfrau peak/Grindlewald first and next day Murren and Interlaken.

    My 2 questions are

1-Where to stay for these 2 days? Interlaken or Grindlewald?

2-I will return to Zurich on 16th September. How to reach Zurich from Grindlewald or Interlaken? And what time does it takes from both the places to reach Zurich? I will do a short siteseeing in Zurich on the same day.

Hello Baban and Welcome to MySwissAlps,

Nice to hear you’re coming for a visit!

It doesn’t make a big difference if you stay in Grindelwald or Interlaken, as they are very close and both are practical to explore the area. Interlaken is larger and an absolut shopping paradise, whereas Grindelwald lies a little more scenic but is smaller an quieter. Check below links for inspiration as well as accommodation recommendations:

In order to find train connections from either place back to Zurich, as well as for trips in the area, use the below timetable. Make sure you understand how it works, it’s a fab tool for planning.
