We are travelling as a couple next week. Have already booked 2N hotel stay in Geneva. 4/5 Jul. Need recommendation for rest of trip.

1. What should we do 1 full day in Geneva?

would like to take glacier express and stay in Zermatt and/or St.Moritz – 6jul

2. should we make Lucerne or Interlaken our base for 3 nights 7-9 jul. Check out 10 jul and take train to Zurich. Spend 1/2 day before our flight out to London in evening.

3. what to do in Lucerne or Interlaken?

4. Can you recommend reasonably priced hotel with good location in Zermatt /Lucerne/Interlaken.

5. should we get a travel pass?

Welcome to MySwissAlps. Here are some answers:

1. Our personal recommendations for Geneva are listed at http://www.myswissalps.com/ge neva. All information about the Glacier Express can be found here. From Geneva, it would make most sense to board in Brig and travel to Chur or St. Moritz to spend the night there. It will be a long journey though, and you’ll have to leave early to even catch the Glacier Express in Brig. Please use the timetable for all details. You seem to want to spend the night in Zermatt, but in that case you’d have to travel in the reverse direction which is even more challenging from Geneva. An alternative would be to just travel to Zermatt on July 6, just do some local sightseeing there, and skip the Glacier Express. On July 7 you’d travel towards Interlaken/Lucerne, using the scenic regional Lötschberg trains if you like (enter “Goppenstein” as a via-station in the timetable if you want this alternative to be displayed).

2. Well, that depends on your personal preferences. Both regions are excellent and offer lots of activities and great scenery. Please compare using our Lake Lucerne and Jungfrau Region pages. I suggest to start booking your hotels by now, as July is tourist high season and choice will be narrowed down if you wait too long.

5. Yes, you should. An 8 day Swiss Travel Pass would be the most convenient option. If you want to compare this to other options you can use this guide. I’d suggest to order your passes within the next couple of days. Buying print at home passes in advance is by far the easiest option, but this too takes 2-3 to process.
