Hi,I will be traveling to Switzerland next week, spending a few days in the Jungfrau region. I am still confused about what train pass to get that would be the best option for our short stay. Here is my itinerary :

Aug. 30th-arrive Zurich Airport(at 8:00 AM), take train to Lauterbrunnen.

Aug 30, 31, Sept 1st, sleep in Lauterbrunnen

Sept. 2nd , take train to Luzern, sleep one night

Sept 3rd, take very early train to Zurich Airport.

Weather permitting, we would like to use the time in Lauterbrunnen for trips and easy hikes to Schilthorn, Schynige Platte, Manlichen, Kleine Scheidegg and possibly Jungfraujoch.

Will a Half Fare Pass be a better solution than a Jungfrau Pass for the duration of our trip ?

I was trying to calculate total cost for each day by using point to point tickets but have not been successful, please help.

    Thank you all,

    Carmen

    Hello Carmen,

By far the best way to check timetables, find fares* and buy tickets on-line if required is using the SBB Mobile app (bit.ly/2ICIUHi). In the unlikely event you don’t have a device capable of running the app then you can use the timetable on the SBB website (bit.ly/2HH1U7B). If you are not familiar with using the timetable it will pay to first read the instructions on this page – http://www.myswissalps.com/ti metable.

    * The SBB website shows half-fare prices by default, the mobile app allows you to nominate whether to show full or half-fares (by editing the passenger details in settings) and is also smart enough to offer you the Saver Day Pass (http://www.myswissalps.com/sa verdaypass) if that offers the best fare.

Based on your personal itinerary you should read “How to choose the best travel pass” (http://www.myswissalps.com/tr ain/ticketspasses/prac tical/chooserailpass), download the handy spreadsheet calculator and do the math. The spreadsheet also includes links to the “Where it’s valid” page for all available passes. Be sure to check those pages for each pass you are considering. Study the map AND read all the text on those pages to fully understand what is covered by the respective pass.

The simple way to a perfect Swiss trip

    Hi … GM..
I just enjoyed the Swiss beauty with Swiss Travel Pass (https://www.myswissalp s.com/swisstravelpass) of 4 days. It gives u freedom to travel by all modes of transport like bus, any train except TGV and boat! Cable cars are also free. Jungfraujoch ticket is offered at 25% discount if u hv STP.

4 days STP made sense for me …go for it n enjoy!!

    Hi Carmen,

Looking at your itinerary, you might want to consider Jungfrau Travel Pass (JTP) (http://www.myswissalps.com/ju ngfrautravelpass). It covers:

    • Lauterbrunnen
    • Schilthorn (Cable car from Stechelberg to Mürren and Mürren to Schilthorn: 25% off)
    • Schynige Platte
    • Manlichen
    • Kleine Scheidegg
    • Jungfraujoch (CHF 61 with JTP)

You can also take a look at my post (http://www.myswissalps.com/fo rum/topic/swiss-half-fare-card-with-jungfrau-travel-pass-1) which might gives you some help/comparison.

As rockoyster pointed, a spreadsheet calculator might just do the math and help in your decision.

Hi Carmen! At first glance I tend to support Jurbera’s advice for a 4 day Swiss Travel Pass, as it’s by far the easiest option: http://www.myswissalps.com/sw isstravelpass. Note that it also includes the entire Schilthorn ride for free: http://www.myswissalps.com/sw isstravelpass/validity. A Swiss Half Fare Card will work too, although it doesn’t quite as much flexibility: http://www.myswissalps.com/sw isshalffarecard.

A Jungfrau Travel Pass does offer good coverage for the Lauterbrunnen area, but it won’t do anything for your inbound and outbound trips or for your stay in Lucerne (http://www.myswissalps.com/ju ngfrautravelpass/valid ity).

Thank you all for the great advice, I may buy the Swiss travel pass(4 days) since we would like to get a discount on the Golden Round Trip ticket for Mount Pilatus in Luzern as well as the train from Lauterbrunnen to Luzern and from Luzern to Zurich airport.
