Is it worth staying in Engelberg and also Lucerne?

Short summary – read this first

A traveler named Menks is planning a trip to Switzerland starting and ending in Zurich, with stops in Interlaken, Zermatt, and Lucerne, totaling 8 days in December. They want advice on whether to stay in Engelberg and if the Glacier Paradise will be open, as well as ticket purchasing options based on weather conditions.

Key takeaways:
  • Consider spending a night or two in Engelberg for scenic views and winter sports, but a day trip from Lucerne is also a good option.
  • The Glacier Paradise should be open in early December, and you can buy tickets at the valley station, just a 15-minute walk from the train station.
  • The train ride from Lucerne to Engelberg is only about 45 minutes, making travel easy.
  • Check local resources or links for hotel options and the latest updates on ticketing.

    Hi Menks,

Are you planning on seeing anything in Engelberg (such as Mt Titlis?). It’s a small village, very scenic and at the end of that train line. If not, Lucerne is a good place to stay. The train into Engelberg from Lucerne is only about 45 minutes.

The Glacier Paradise should be open in the beginning of December (see attachment). I believe it’s open all year round, just different ways of getting there. Yes, you can buy tickets at the valley station. That’s located at the other end of town from the train station. About a 15 min walk, following the river, you will see signs for it.

    Have a great trip.

    Regards,

    Danielsan

    Hi Menks,

It’s perfectly fine to spend a night and two in Engelberg. It’s a really nice village and a good starting point to do hikes or winter sports. But you can also stay in Lucerne and just do a day trip to Engelberg. The train is ride is only 45 minutes, as mentioned by Danielsan earlier. You can find hotel options in Lucerne here: http://www.myswissalps.com/lucerne/hotels
