There are direct trains from Zurich Airport to Lucerne if you are arriving via flights and the journey takes roughly 1 hour and 15 mins. From Lucerne, it is easier to plan excursions to Mt Pilatus (https://www.myswissalps.com/activity/pilatus/) and day trip to Zurich (https://www.myswissalps.com/town/zurich/). You can then take the scenic Lucerne-Interlaken Express to Interlaken (about 2 h journey) and use this as a base to explore the Jungfrau region (https://www.myswissalps.com/region/jungfrau-region/) and visit destinations such Grindelwald, Wengen and Lauterbrunnen.

Thank you for your prompt reply. Your suggested itinerary sounds great. Unfortunately, our time is limited. We are arriving and departing from the Zurich airport, arriving mid-afternoon and departing early morning. Therefore we decided to stay in Zurich and make it our base.
