Junior travel card with Eurail Global Pass?

Short summary – read this first

A traveler named Preethy wants to know if they can get a Swiss Junior Travel Card for their 7-year-old child without needing a Swiss Half Fare Card. Preethy has a Eurail Global Pass and is planning to travel to Switzerland, particularly to Jungfraujoch and Mount Titlis, and is looking for clarity on ticketing options.

Key takeaways:
  • You can purchase a Junior Travel Card for CHF 30.00 for your child, but you must have a valid ticket for yourself as an accompanying parent.
  • The Junior Travel Card can be used for trips to Jungfraujoch and Mount Titlis, as long as you're accompanied by a parent with a valid ticket.
  • It's best to buy the Junior Card at a staffed rail station where you can get specific advice regarding your Eurail Pass.

    >> Are we eligible for Swiss junior travel card for 7 year old without half fare card?

You asked this question in a slightly different way than previously, so I thought it might be worth clarifying what your thoughts are: Are you thinking that if you simply get a Swiss Half Fare Card that you might be entitled to also get the Junior travelcard?

If so, I certainly think you should make further enquiries before assuming that a Junior travel card would be valid if you just have a Swiss Half Fare Card without a corresponding half-fare ticket for each trip.

    Hi Preethy,

As noted on our Junior Travel Card page the accompanying parent just needs to have a valid rail ticket or pass (which should be ok with the Eurail Pass) to make the Junior Travel Card is valid.

In any case you have to buy it at a staffed rail station so they can inform you if it will work. If you have the time later on please let us know if it worked out for you. 🙂

    Happy travels!

I just double checked and don’t think the Junior travelcard will work with a Eurail pass. Please see http://www.myswissalps.com/fo rum/topic/mt-titlis-and-jungfrau-with-eurail-global-pass.

But still you can ask again at a Swiss train station, to be 100% sure.

Thanks Arno. But I believe that it works with a ticket which is mandatory for Jungfrau and Titlis trip.

You might be right there Preethy. But I am not sure as you would still be making use of the Eurail pass to get discounts on those tickets. Well, the local staff will be able to explain the options.

Hi Preethy. Thank you for your comment. You are entitled to purchase a Junior travelcard of CHF 30.00 for your child (only condition: child is accompanied by a parent with a valid ticket). The Junior travelcard is valid for your journeys to the Jungfraujoch and also to Mount Titlis. Please find the synoptic map here: http://www.sbb.ch/content/dam /sbb/de/pdf/abos-billette/abonnemente/g a/karte-geltungsbereich-ga-halbtax-stand-dezember2016_d_barrier efrei.pdf. We’re looking forward to welcome you in Switzerland soon. Kind regards, Sandra.

Thanks for sharing that! Did you tell them you’ll be using a Eurail pass?

Hello Preethy. The Eurrail is accepted. You just have to buy a ticket from Interlaken to the Jungfrau (with the discount). This will be valid. To buy a Junior Card, we need a copy of your ID and that of your child. It’s better if you go to a counter when you arrive in Switzerland. Greetings, Charline

Wonderful, thanks! It’s weird that apparently the rules changed over the last few years, but it’s to your benefit.
