Kleine Scheidegg – Lauterbrunnen via Eiger Express
Sabby is planning a trip to Switzerland soon, with a base in Wengen. They’re interested in visiting Kleine Scheidegg and Lauterbrunnen and are looking for advice on the best routes and timing for their travel, especially with their Swiss Travel Pass.
Taking the train from Wengen to Lauterbrunnen is a great option as it’s quick and covered by the Swiss Travel Pass. If you want to ride the Eiger Express, consider going to Grindelwald Terminal first, then plan your route based on your desired stops. Always check ticket options at the station to ensure you have the correct fares for your journeys.

Forgive me for saying you sound like you’re all over the map….lol. Based on your many posts, I would like to suggest a basic itinerary for you…. Starting in Lucerne, head to Interlaken/Wengen, then Montreux, then Zermatt. (I realize your concern for the weather, but….) From Zermatt, you can easily get to Lugano (via Domodossola) and then Milan is only an hour and 15-20 min from there. Stick with your three days in Zermatt. If you do a day trip to Zermatt from Montreux (which can be done), its a 2.5-hour ride. That’s 5 hrs of a round trip that you could be using to explore the vineyards and other places in and around Montreux. By doing what I mentioned, you aren’t bouncing around back and forth, criss-crossing. I believe (again, just my opinion) in trying to go in one basic direction. It sounds like you should have enough time to cancel/change any hotel reserves that you already may have. Just something to keep in mind to ease your thoughts. It’s so very easy to want to see everything possible, as so many folks get caught up in doing. Again, have a great one.
Regards,
Danielsan

Yes! my route is fly in Zurich-> Lucerne-> wengen —> interlaken —> montreux —> zermatt —> Milan —> Lugano —> bellinzona on way back to Zurich > home (3 weeks)
all Hotels are booked ( will need to be paid soon) and even bought some super saver tickets ! Just need to buy pass and packing my carry on in between my work days ! Do I have some anxiety? Yes, very worried about the weather especially in zermatt as I really don’t know what to do for three days in this small village other than hiking and having fun outdoor ! Lol 😂
I am going to let it go and not to over thinking too much about the weather and just travel as planned ! I have luck with weather usually until the last cruise trip to Alaska , the whole week was raining and glaciers pictures looked so gloomy and not seeing many sea animals as I expected ! So May be I am a bit “ traumatized” by the experience! 😂😂🤣
By the way do you remember the link Ana / Yolanda posted here about the legit website from SBB like klook for discounted price to buy BO pass ? I want to use the link to buy my BO pass and May be 1/2 fare card

Reply 26 of 36 • 10 September 2023 at 16:22:36 #957976This is all so helpful. What is the hike from Mannlichen down to Kleine Scheidegg like? I’m 74, and a good walker, but don’t want a difficult hike.
Thanks!, Pam
UserInactive83503 postsReply 27 of 36 • 10 September 2023 at 17:31:54 #957977Hi Pam,
Here’s our handy link for the Männlichen Panorama Trail to Kleine Scheidegg. It’s considered an easy walk on a wide dirt path. It’s a little uneven in parts, with a few gentle ups and downs.
Hope this helps.
Kind regards,
Yolanda
Reply 29 of 36 • 11 September 2023 at 13:21:47 #957979Hi Pam, we are almost in our 70’s and did the Mannlichen – KS Panoramic walk twice. It’s a doable enjoyable “hike” with wonderful open views of the alps in front all the time. I suggest you take a hiking pole and good sturdy shoes that will support your ankles as there may be occasional undulating sections along the way. So it’s good to be able to balance when that happens. Nothing to worry about but it’s always good to safe rather than sorry. Take along a snack or two (choc is great) and definitely water so you can sit on the benches along the way and take in the views.
Enjoy!

Reply 31 of 36 • 12 September 2023 at 21:11:58 #957981Hi Pam,
Sorry for the delay, I was in the midst of leaving on my own trip. Just landed yesterday morning. I agree with everything Traveljet said in relation to the Manlichen to KS walk. Gentle downhill walk with the Eiger in full view the whole time. For me, it was overcast, and the Eiger had a cloud hat the whole time, but it still was magnificent. Another extremely easy walk in the area is from the top of Grutschalp down to Murren. That was spectacular. The Eiger, Monch, and Jungfrau are in full view the whole time. Simply beautiful (see pic). Some uphill spots, especially in the beginning, but nothing steep. You can also take the train, but to me, the walk/hike was fantastic. There are tons of trails in the region. Hope you have a great time.
Regards,
Danielsan

Another easy walk is from KScheidegg to Wengernalp. It’s mentioned in my trip report under the section when we stayed at Wengen. There are some parts with lots of little stones or gravel, so you may still wish to bring the hiking pole to steady yourself. But overall, it’s a slightly downhill walk on a fairly wide path (cyclists do use this path as well tho we didn’t see many of them).
Have you planned where to stay yet? You can take the train from Wengernalp back to wherever you are staying.
Here’s the trip report with a short mention of the walk:
