Late April hiking Interlaken / Lake Brienz

Short summary – read this first

Connie, visiting from Malaysia, is planning a 6-night trip to Interlaken at the end of April. She and her companion will spend the first two nights at Grandhotel Giessbach, exploring Giessbach waterfall and Brienz, and are seeking hiking recommendations to see spring flowers while in Interlaken city center.

Key takeaways:
  • Consider taking a boat trip on Lake Brienz for a scenic experience.
  • Look for guided hiking tours that focus on photography if you prefer a structured experience.
  • Most high-altitude hiking routes will be closed in late April, but you can still find lower-altitude trails with beautiful spring flowers.
  • The Swiss Travel Pass is a good option for unlimited travel and discounts on transportation and attractions.

    Hi travellers

    Greetings from sunny Malaysia.

I will be spending 6 nights at Interlaken the last week of April (23 to 28th April) with 2 nights at the Grandhotel Giessbach and the remaining nights at Interlaken city center. We plan to explore the Giessbach waterfall and Brienz the first 2 day when we stay at the Giessbach hotel. Looking for recommendation at the Brienz area.

We are also looking to do day hiking when we move over to Interlaken city center. Are there any hiking trails we must explore during this time of the year where we get to see spring flowers?

Thank you in advance for your feedback.

    Connie

Hi Connie and welcome to MySwissAlps!

You can travel by boat on Lake Brienz, also if you like these kinds of museums I highly recommend the Ballenberg Open Air Museum. more activity tips can be found here: http://www.myswissalps.com/brienz/activities.

Regarding the hiking, you’ll have plenty of opportunities as you are going to be in the Jungfrau region: http://www.myswissalps.com/jungfrauregion/activities. Scroll down, so you can find the hiking section. As it will be the end of April, in the mountains there will be still snow, so most of the high altitude routes will be still closed (until the end of June, the beginning of July), but you can still find hiking routes open. Or if you want, you can try snowshoeing.

I am sure you’ll find useful information at http://www.myswissalps.com/hiking/winter.

You’ll see spring flowers everywhere at lower altitudes like already in Interlaken.

I’ve found these for you, you might find them useful too: http://www.myswissalps.com/forum/topic/jungfrau-region-hike-in-april and http://www.myswissalps.com/forum/topic/hiking-near-jungfrau-region-and-lucerne-mid-april

    hi Ildiko

Thanks for the very helpful links. I am looking for a guided walk and photography opportunities. Are there a hiking company I can reach out?

I am looking for a mountain guide who can take us for a day hike and explore places offering photography opportunity. I like to do a 4 to 5 hours hike with moderate elevation. It can be a point to point hike. A private guide just for the 2 of us. Sorry if I didn’t make myself clear.

Most people don’t bother with this sort of thing, as the Swiss hiking path system is so well marked, and you will see flowers everywhere where the fields are turning from winter to Spring

You are absolutely right. I bumped into so many hikers when I was on a guided walking tour in Bernese Oberland. Thanks for all the input.
