Lauterbrunnen May 16-25th, walking trails open?
A traveler is planning a 10-day trip to Lauterbrunnen from May 16-25 and wants to do easy hikes, specifically First to Bachalpsee and Wengernalp to Kleine Scheidegg. They are unsure if these trails will be accessible due to winter conditions and are looking for alternative hiking suggestions in case the higher altitude trails are closed.
- Check with local tourist offices for real-time trail accessibility information during your stay.
- Consider lower elevation hikes like the Lauterbrunnen to Stechelberg route or the Grutschalp to Murren trail, which typically open earlier.
- The gondola from Wengen to Männlichen opens on May 11, but trails may still be affected by snow until mid-June.
- The Natur und Bahn trail along the river from Lauterbrunnen is an easy option and allows for train return.
- Be mindful that higher elevation hikes may not open until early July in heavy snow years.

We will be in Lauterbrunnen for 10 days, May 16-25th. We want to do easy hikes in the area and are interested in First to Bachalpsee as well as Wengernalp to Kleine Scheidegg. I’ve read on this forum not to count on any hikes above 2000 meters until mid June. I know you don’t have a crystal ball to foresee the future, but does anyone know if the winter has been mild or cold with a lot of snow.? Just wondering if we have any likelihood of walking these trails. Any other easy suggestions if you think they will be closed?
