Hi! I know skiing is open year round on zermatt but we are two beginner skiers and wondering if the conditions will be fine or if it will be too much ice?

Also, if we are looking to get lessons, should we hook that in advance or the day before when we arrive?

    Thank you!

    Hi Npatel1127,

In Zermatt you can ski year round. I don’t have information about the snow condition but I’m guessing it’s good enough for skiing. April is still considered ski season in Zermatt by the way. If you’d like to register for ski lessons, it’s best to book early so the school can arrange an instructor for you in advance. Options include private individual lessons or in small groups. There are several ski schools in Zermatt and it’s good to shop around and plan ahead.

Ski-ing in Zermatt is not actually ‘year round’

The normal winter ski season ends in late April and the summer skiing is very limited on the Glacier near Klein Matterhorn.

You will need to check on the Zermatt web site the exact date of the end of the proper winter ski season. As a beginner you are advised to use winter season slopes.

    Hi Npatel1127!

In addition, you can read more about beginner skiing here: http://www.myswissalps.com/activities/winter/beginnerski. Spring and summer options are limited, but Zermatt is definitely one of the places in which your chances are best.

The class Anna linked to is a good one. It can be booked all year long. Scroll down at http://www.myswissalps.com/activities/winter for more beginners’ class options in Switzerland. You’ll find that some are available until late-March, others until mid-April or even longer.
