We are planning a trip in March through Italy and will end up in Milan. Would like to visit Switzerland. Thinking about taking the route of the Bernina Express (but on one of the trains you can get on and off) so we can spend the night in Switzerland. Our stay in Milan is already paid for so will leave our luggage there, but want to spend a night in the Alps, then return back to Milan the following day. We will fly home from Milan. Any suggestions as to where we should go? We know we could spend weeks in Switzerland and wish we could, but will have to appreciate the 2 days we have available. Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks!

Hi travelbug. I’d say the Bernina Express to St. Moritz would be a good option for a 2 days trip. You could spend the night in or near St. Moritz and maybe visit a viewing point such as Muottas Muragl before returning. You could get back to Milan via Chiavenna or Thusis to experience another route (just enter such towns as your via-destination in the timetable for details).

An alternative is traveling to Zermatt via Domodossola and Brig. This is a beautiful route as well and there are lots of activities to be done in and near Zermatt. Although it’s a short stay, both options will allow to enjoy the Alps for a while!
