Montreux: what do do on a rainy day?

Short summary – read this first

Kajal is currently in Montreux for two days and seeks advice on what to do due to unfavorable weather for mountain excursions. She received suggestions for activities in the area, including visiting cheese and chocolate factories, museums, and spas, instead of her original plans for Gornergrat and Glacier 3000.

Key takeaways:
  • Consider visiting the cheese factory in Gruyeres and the chocolate factory in Broc for a fun day trip out of Montreux.
  • Check out interesting museums in Geneva or Lausanne if the weather isn't suitable for outdoor activities.
  • Visit Chaplin's World near Vevey for a unique experience.
  • Utilize the Swiss Travel Pass to get around easily—it's great for trains to these destinations.
  • Explore the Olympic Museum in Lausanne for additional cultural insights.

    Hi team,

I’m currently in Montreux for the next two days and thinking what all can be done from here…. The climate does not seem to be right for mountain excursions for the next 2 days so will have to make change in my plans for Gornegrat and glacier 3000.
Help me with what can be done…..

    Hi Kaju

Pity about the weather. There is plenty to do in Montreux depending on your interests!

You can find some ideas here: http://www.myswissalps.com/mo ntreux/activities

From Montreux you can visit the cheese factory in Gruyeres followed by the chocolate factory in Broc which is a nice day trip and can be done in not so good weather.

If not you can always go to Geneva http://www.myswissalps.com/ge neva or Lausanne http://www.myswissalps.com/la usanne, plenty of interesting museums there to visit.

If you’re into spas, there’s a couple of really nice ones in Le Deck (in Lavaux) or in Le Mirador hotel in Mont-Pelerin.

And who can forget Chaplin’s world near Vevey! http://www.chaplinsworld.com/ en

You can use the timetable to figure out train transport to all these destinations: http://www.myswissalps.com/ti metable

    Hope that helps?

    Maria.

Not too far from Lausanne are the caves at Vallorbe. Les Grottes de Vallorbe.

For future reference, near Montreux is the Blonay-Chamby Railway Museum, but this year it opens only as of May 4th. The website is in French and German. Chemin de Fer-Musée Blonay-Chamby

I enjoyed the Queen Experience exhibit inside of the Casino, explains the connection between Queen (music group) and Montreux.
