Mt. Pilatus Golden Round Trip not available in April. Alternatives?

Short summary – read this first

A traveler is planning a trip for clients to Switzerland in late April, specifically a tour to Mt. Pilatus on April 27. However, they've learned that the Golden Round-Trip is not operating, causing confusion, and they’re seeking alternative suggestions for their clients' itinerary.

Key takeaways:

The Swiss Travel Pass gives a 50% discount on the cable cars to Mt. Pilatus and makes the trolleybus ride from Lucerne free. Consider alternative destinations like Mt. Titlis or Mt. Rigi, as journeys up Rigi and Stanserhorn are free with the Swiss Travel Pass.

I have clients travelling to Switzerland in late April. I booked them on a customized itinerary with a tour company. Tour booked for Mt. Pilatus on 4/27 and was the following: Mt. Pilatus with boat ride on Lake Lucerne-Golden Round-Trip Ticket-Half Fare Card. I received an email today and was advised: As per the most updated schedule from Mount Pilatus, the Golden roundtrip is delayed reopening in April. I am a bit confused as now I am reading online that this tour is not operational in April. They are offering an alternative :  Mount Pilatus Winter Discovery (with Private Transfers, 4.5 hrs) – Vehicle/Driver/Admission (Half Fare Card)

Looking for suggestions four my clients other than what they are being offered as an alternative

    Hello ROMA

    Welcome to MySwissAlps

Both the boat from Lucerne to Alpnachstad and the cog-wheel railway from Alpnachstad to Pilatus Kulm do not start operating until 12 May.

If I wanted to go up Pilatus before May 12, I would catch the number one trolleybus from Lucerne station to Kriens Zentrum Pilatus; take the ten minutes walk from there to the bottom station of the cable cars; go up in the cable cars.  The trolleybus is free with the Swiss Travel Pass (https://www.myswissalps.com/travel-ticket/swiss-travel-pass/) .  The STP gives a 50% discount on the cable cars.

Mount Pilatus Winter Discovery (with Private Transfers, 4.5 hrs) – Vehicle/Driver/Admission (Half Fare Card)

I am GUESSING that this involves taxis to/from the bottom station of the cable cars.

However, I would never pre-book a trip up a mountain.  The weather on the chosen day might be awful….

    (If your clients want a boat ride on  Lake Lucerne (https://www.myswissalps.com/activity/boat-lake-lucerne/) , the boats on the main route from Lucerne to Fluelen operate 365-days-a-year.}

    Kind regards

    Roger

    Hi ROMA,

That’s right, per Roger, should your clients wish to visit Pilatus before 12th May, you would need to make your way to Kriens and take the gondola up.

Further details and information in our Pilatus travel guide in the link below:

Alternatives, there is Mt. Titlis or Rigi they could visit on your chosen date?  You can read all about them in the links attached:

    I hope this helps.

    Kind regards,

    Yolanda

    Hello again

Just a footnote to the previous replies.  If your clients have STPs, that gives them a 50% discount up Mount Titlis.  Journies up the Rigi and the Stanserhorn are FREE with the STP.

    Kind regards

    Roger
