Glacier Express with Swiss Travel Pass
A family of two adults and one 15-year-old boy is planning a trip to Switzerland next week. They want to know if the Glacier Express is included in the Swiss Travel Pass, the route options from St. Moritz to Zermatt, how to reserve seats after purchasing the pass, and if their son can use the Swiss Family Card since he turns 16 soon. They’re looking for quick, clear answers to help finalize their travel plans.
- The Glacier Express is included in the Swiss Travel Pass, so you can use it on your journey.
- You can travel from St. Moritz to Zermatt without any issues, as direction of travel doesn’t matter.
- Purchase the Swiss Travel Pass online to save time and avoid waiting at the ticket office.
- Seat reservations for the Glacier Express are separate from the Swiss Travel Pass and should be booked in advance.
- Your son can still travel for free with the Swiss Family Card as long as he’s 15 on the first day of travel.

A family of two adults and one boy turning 16 this July would like to ask the following question:
1. Is the Glacier Express valid in the Swiss Travel Pass (intend to make a four day rail pass)?
2. Can we take the famous rail journey from St. Mortiz to Zermatt rather than Zermatt to St. Mortiz?
3. For reservations what do we need to do in the event that we purchase the Swiss Travel Pass from Zurich? Does it cost extra to reserve and where can we do the seat reservation from?
4. Can the boy of 15 years turning 16 in the next month be eligible for the Swiss Family card with us?
Thank you so much…..traveling in the next week to Lovely Switzerland.
