Hello, all. We are staying in Weggis and planning a day trip to Mt. Pilatus. After spending a few hours on the mountain, we would like to stop in at least one or two villages around the lake on our way back to Weggis. We could go by ferry or train as we have a Swiss Pass. Other than Vitznau and Meggenhorn (which we will have already seen) can you recommend any other villages that are especially noteworthy to see? Thanks for any suggestions!

    Hi Stacy-

It’s a little tougher in Winter.

If it were summer, I’d suggest going up to Hammetschwand, on Bürgenstock for lunch. Closed for the Winter.

You might enjoy taking a lake boat to Treib, riding the funicular to Seelisberg,, and walking up the road and then bear to the left on thh walk near the cliff edge (if it is open now) , all the way to the Hotel Sonnenberg. From the viewing platform at the hotel, overlooking the lake, there are some really nice views.

This thread includes a description of some walks in the area, including a part of one which is what I described above.

There is a lot of other stuff in the thread, too.

Brunnen has a nice waterfront area, but not nice enough to recommend it

in the winter. I like to eat on the terrace at the Waldstätterhof…in

    warm weather.

I like Schwyz, because I am a fan of Swiss history. Some museums.

Ital-Reding house, and Bethlehem house, about 800-900 years old.

Maybe Rigi-Katbad, but the only reason I go up there is for the Hotel Bergsonne’s restaurant. They might be open now. They open sometime in early to mid-December. Slow food ( a meal takes a long time), really good, and fantastic wine cellar.

    Hi Stacy-

    I misunderstood your comment –

<<We are staying in Weggis and planning a day trip to Mt. Pilatus.”>>

I thought you in Weggis right now. ;-(

I did not understand that you will be staying in Weggis in the future.

I’ll recheck and perhaps add some suggestions for June.

    My first thought is Hammetschwand:

Just rechecked it. Works for me. Try right click and “open in new tab”

It was thread about other issues, but includes ideas about other towns to see as you work down the thread. .
