    Hi Swiss Alps team,

I am planning to visit gornergrat on May 2nd and planning to get down at Rotenboden, visit lake Riffelsee and trek down to Riffelberg.

Is the whole trek path will be covered in Snow ? Is it worth to go lake Riffelsee in May 1st week ?

I am planning with 8 and 10 yr kids.

Can you please give your suggestions ?

    Regards

    Naren

Hi Naren! It’s too early to tell whether the hiking path between Rotenboden and Riffelalp (myswissalps.com/hiking /rotenboden-riffelalp) will be accessible during your stay. It’s pretty warm now, so snow will definitely melt, but cooler weather and new precipitation (with snow above 2000 m) are expected in the course of next week. The first week of May is generally not suitable for hikes at such altitudes. The tourist centre in Zermatt will be able to inform you about available hiking options once you’re there. You can best focus on the lower altitude trails at myswissalps.com/zermat t/activities.
