A traveler is planning train transportation for their upcoming trip from Interlaken to Como, Italy, and is unsure if their pre-purchased Saver Day Pass covers this route. They are getting conflicting information about the pass's validity and the best route to take.
Key takeaways:
The Saver Day Pass is valid only in Switzerland; you'll need a separate ticket from Chiasso to Como.
To travel from Interlaken to Como, consider taking the Gotthard line for scenic views, then purchase your ticket to Como in advance.
For an easier trip, take the Lucerne-Interlaken Express and connect to the Treno Gottardo for beautiful landscapes.

I am planning train transportation for our upcoming trip to Switzerland/Italy. I purchased saver day passes for transport between Geneva and Zermatt; Zermatt and Interlaken. The last leg I have to plan is Interlaken to Como Italy. I am wondering if anyone knows if this route is covered with the Saver Day pass pre purchased passes? Or if only the route within Switzerland is covered. The fare I am currently getting from their website is $237.CHF- the saver day passes are $104. I am getting conflicting info trying to use the area of validity interactive map on the SBB website to determine if this route is covered.

Hello CMK
Travelling from Interlaken to Como take the Gotthard line via Lugano and CHIASSO, not the Simplon line via Domodossola and Milan. Now the good news! Chiasso is only four kilometres (two-and-a-half miles) from the frontier station at Chiasso. Your Day Saver Pass (https://www.myswissalps.com/travel-ticket/saver-day-pass/), currently priced at $104, will take you all the way to Chiasso. You will need a separate point-to-point ticket for those last four kilometres. from Chiasso to Como.
What day are you making this trip? A new timetable is coming into force on September 2nd on the Gotthard railway, with the Intercity and Eurocity trains treating you to 20 minutes of total darkness as they speed through the longest railway tunnel in the world. However, you will want to take the ‘Panoramastrecke’ (opened 1882) with rather better scenery!
Best wishes
Roger

I truly appreciate the advice! That sounds so much easier than I was thinking. Per your advice I have purchased saver day passes for the date of travel from Interlaken (west) to Como (with the intent of getting off at Chiasso and getting another train to Como) Would you be kind enough to further elaborate exactly how I would go about getting the Gotthard Line specifically because when I enter the info into the SBB website it does not populate Gotthard trains as an option. I am seeing other routes not on the Gotthard Trains. Alternately if I opted not to take the Gotthard trains I assume that the same would apply that I be able to use my Saver Day Pass and would take a route from Interlaken to Chiasso. Get off at Chiasso and buy a separate ticket to Como?

Hi CMK,
The Saver Day Pass is only valid in Switzerland. You will have to purchase a ticket from the Swiss border (e.g Chiasso) to Como. You can purchase your tickets online and in advance so there’s no need to get off Chiasso when you are travelling on a direct train. Please find details here: https://www.myswissalps.com/travel-guide/italy-switzerland/
If you wish to travel on scenic routes, I recommend taking the Lucerne-Interlaken Express from Interlaken to Lucerne (the GoldenPass route: https://www.myswissalps.com/activity/goldenpass/), then continue with the Treno Gottardo from Lucerne via Goschenen to Bellinzona or Locarno (largely the same as the Gotthard Panorama Express route: https://www.myswissalps.com/activity/gotthard-panorama-express/). Here you’ll find train services to Como departing at regular intervals.

Hi again CMK
The trains over the ‘Panoramastrcke’ are called the ‘Treno Gottardo‘. To find them on the Swiss Electronic Timetable work as follows.
Type in Lucerne as the starting point. Type in Locarno as the end point
Click on ‘settings’. Click on the ‘via’ field at the top. Click on ‘apply’.
In the via field insert Airolo. (Airolo is an important stop on the Panoramastrecke.)
A list of departures (at 18 minutes past each hour) will appear.
An interesting route assuming you do not have a lot of luggage
Get the 08 05 IC61 Interlaken West (bound for Basel) getting off at Bern at 08 52
Get the 09 00 IR15 to Lucerne. Train arrives at Lucerne at 10 01. Be at the front of the train. (Lucerne is a modern dead-end station).
Walk out of the front of Lucerne station. Directly in front of you is a bus station, and just the other side of the bus station is the landing stage for the boats. (About 100 metres at most.)
Get the 10 12 boat from Lucerne to Fluelen, arr 12 55. (Have lunch on the boat.) Walk the 250 metres from the landing stage to the train station.
Get the 13 15 IR46 Treno Gottardo to Locarno, arr 15 27. Take a break at Locarno. During that break go in the booking office at Locarno, show them your Super Saver Day Passes and get them to sell you the necessary Chiasso to Como tickets.
Get the 16 22 RE 80 train bound for Milano Centrale, arrives Como San Giovanni at 17 35. A few minutes before Como, the train will stop at Chiasso. STAY ON THE TRAIN. (There are normally no border formalities.)
Anna and I have given you a lot to think about! (Note Goschenen is another station on the Panoramastrecke.)
I certainly appreciate your detailed route options. You are correct that I have much to consider with the thoughtful advice given on varying routes. I am very thankful for your help. This forum has been an amazing discovery. We are so excited for our upcoming trip.
