A traveler has just arrived in Luzern and is eager to explore small mountain villages, preferably ones with cows. They are looking for recommendations to experience Switzerland's picturesque rural charm.
Key takeaways:
Visit Wengen or Mürren for scenic villages that are easy to access.
Isenthal is a beautiful option, but check the bus schedule carefully as they are limited.
Sachseln is a fantastic half-day trip with stunning views, a lovely lake, and fewer tourists.
Consider getting the Swiss Travel Pass for hassle-free travel on public transport throughout Switzerland.

Wengen or Murren , both fairly small and picturesque. Wengen a little easier to get to. Mark

Perhaps Isenthal, in the mountains above the Vierwaldstättersee (Lake Lucerne). You would get a train to Flüelen or Altdorf UR (depending on your departure time), then a PostBus to Isenthal. The trip up takes almost 2 hours.
You would need to plan carefully, as there are only a few buses per day. The last bus back is shortly after 6pm.

How about Sachseln? 28 minutes from Luzern toward Interlaken, about 5K souls, home of Bruder Klaus (patron saint of CH with a church to match), plenty of cows and sheep, and on a beautiful lake. Not high in the mountains (500 meters) but spectacular views. A nice museum. A little dot of Swiss rural atmosphere, and a easy half day excursion. Nice bakery, several restaurants and hotels, and lower prices than the city.

Yes, they have some great videos of their most spectacular trips! You have to admire those bus drivers … and the people who train them!

Thank you so much Alpenrose666 . I would like to see there too much but as it is a bit far I could not go there. However the same day as for “only plan” I went to Zurich and Stein am Rhein but I regretted that I spent time wrongly . I wish I didnt.

Thank you Fredch for recommendation:)
Since it is close I went there and I liked it so much…Quiet , modern, sheeps… but more then village:) I liked so much but I could not go Flueli..as bus hours are not available. I ‘dwould like to spend time more but instead I went to zurich and stein am rhein and I regretted , I wish I had stayed in villages. .. Small and no-touristic towns are much pretty…
Today I discovered Lugern…wonderful..

Lungern is indeed a nice village. I stayed there for 3 weeks some years ago. The only drawback is that long uphill trek to the train station. Living by the lake and waterfall makes up for that. Glad you enjoyed Sachseln. Country life ain’t bad at all.

The waterfall is at the southern end of the lake. Depending on the time of year, it can be full or less than that. Spring and summer it is significant. In late winter, the lake is half empty, and one can walk into the bed to see the foundations of old homes that existed before it was damed up at the north end.
There is a very nice restaurant across the road at the train station.

Hello again
Tomorrow I am leaving from Grindelwald to Zurich Airport for Istanbul in the evening.
Maybe it is far but again I think to visit to Lungern and then to Zurich Airport.
Could you recommend me another else to see or not? Actually I did not want to see big cities:)

Lungern is on your way. Grindlewald, Interlaken Out. Meiringen, Bruenig, and next stop is Lungern. Then on to Luzern, Zurich, and airport. Long day, so start early.

>> What about Brienz? Is it worth to see ?
The Brienzersee (Lake Brienz) is beautiful, and the trip to the Brienzer Rothorn is wonderful, but the village of Brienz is nothing special in my opinion, and I would not spend any time there.
The Brienzer Rothorn train operates until 22 October, and then closes for the winter. I have attached some pictures I took on this trip in September 2016. As rockoyster mentions, there were cows in the mountain meadows when I went up, but they have probably been brought down to lower ground by now, in preparation for the winter.
