We are planning to visit Switzerland in May and stay for 5 days in Stechelberg.

The question is: Is it a good place to stay and cover Bernese Oberland from Stechelberg?

We are planning to cover Interlaken area (Thun, Brienz, Isetwald), Lauterbrunnen (Scilthorn), Grindelwald & Jungfraujoch in 5 days.

The other options we are considering as an alternate for Stechelberg is Lauterbrunnen or Interlaken.

Pl suggest keeping in mind connectivity to Stechelberg from the areas mentioned above.

    Hi Subhayan

I personally think Lauterbrunnen offers more hotel options and would be a good base for you to explore Interlaken, Grindelwald and the Jungfraujoch. You can find plenty of hotel suggestions here: http://www.myswissalps.com/lauterbrunnen/hotels

    Hi Subhayan,

From Stechelberg it takes around 10-15 mins to get to Lauterbrunnen by bus. That is not much but there is only 2 bus in an hour, so you need to plan a bit more.

I would recommend Lauterbrunnen or Interlaken or Grindelwald if you are looking for faster connectivity.

You can have a look at the timetable at http://www.myswissalps.com/timetable. make sure to read the guide first, before you start using it.

Lauterbrunnen has better connections.more hotels, grocery store, laundromat etc. I have used both Interlaken & Lauterbrunnen as a base. more lodging options in Interlaken, more restaurants, larger grocery stores and more people. It is also further away than Lauterbrunnen from Schilthorn & Jungfraujoch so will take longer to get to these places. the Lauterbrunnen Valley is one of the most beautiful I’ve seen and the town has enough services for most people. It is also connected to the national swiss railroad which you will take out of Interlaken.
